Founded in 1956 by Alessandro Seppilli (edtitled “Health Education”), the journal contributed to disseminate the Italian and European experience in health education and to reach the objectives indicated in the WHO definition of health.
The Journal publishes articles on planning, research reports, papers on the organisation of structures and activities for education for health in public services and private initiatives.
It publishes national and international documents, conference, seminar and congress proceedings and summaries, reviews and bibliographical notes.
Articles in Italian are proceeded by English abstracts.

A journal which intends to promote a health culture to guarantee correct and adequate knowledge for all, to protect and promote health and that of the comunity where one lives.
The journal is for teachers at all school levels, who work to include health education and promotion in the school curricula; for social and health workers, particularly those working in primary health care services; and for those who work in social and voluntary associations in favour of protecting health.
The journal is composed of articles and columns regarding present day cultural and social issues concerning prevention and health promotion. Each bimonthly issue carries a dossier dedicated to a topic relevant to health education and bibliographical indications on further readings.
'La Salute Umana' is authorised to publish articles and documents taken from bibliographical and information materials produced by the World Health Organisation.
