Specific admission requirements and specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning

Basic knowledge necessary for the access to the study course is usually acquired by a Diploma from a Secondary School, or other equivalent qualification awarded abroad and recognized suitable. Orientation tests consisting in a multiple choice paper are provided for at the beginning of the Academic Year.

 

Profile of the programme

The course is aimed at achieving learning outcomes, expressed through the European describers of the qualification.

Master’s graduates in Law carry out all activities which require the personal command of the highest juridical methodology in public and private institutions, also International, and in companies. The Master’s Degree in Law is the qualification required for admission to Schools of Specialization for Legal Professions, also in view of improving the requirement for admission to public exams for magistrate judge and manager in public administrations; it entitles graduates to qualify as lawyers and to admission to PhDs in juridical subjects.

 

Qualification requirements and regulations

The duration of the Degree Course is five years.

The curriculum of the Master’s Degree is organized in 24 exams, together with other formative activities.

For each year of the course, the expected work load is on average 60 credits.

Each credit corresponds to 25 hours of overall commitment for each student. Face to face didactic activity, including classes, seminars and practical activities, is guaranteed for an amount of hours between a minimum of six hours and a maximum of eight hours per credit. The course provides for common core and characterizing disciplines and elective ones. Formative activities are also planned with a view to learning at least one foreign language, and to acquiring computer and telematic abilities.

Internships in public and private entities are also included in the activities of the curriculum, able to provide a formative and orientative experience, in accordance with article 10, paragraph d, of the DM 270/2004, regulated by the Degree Course Council by an appropriate regulation.

Key learning outcomes

The Master’s Degree in Law certifies full knowledge of the legal system, considered in its main expressions.

In particular, Master’s graduates in Law must:

-  have acquired in-depth knowledge of the basic National and International juridical culture, also through case methodologies and techniques, with reference to themes useful for the comprehension and assessment of principles and institutes of positive law;

- develop an historical knowledge which allows them to assess institutes of positive law also in the perspective of their evolution over time;

- acquire ability to draw up clear legal papers, in consideration of the relevant context, well argued, also with the support of computer tools;

- have in-depth skills of interpretation, case analysis, legal qualification, comprehension, representation, assessment and awareness abilities, to deal with law application and interpretation matters;

- apply basic tools acquired during the period of study, also in view of updating their own competencies. 

Examination regulations, assessment and grading

The didactic credits relevant to the core, characterizing, non – departmental complementary course and elective formative activities, together with the ones relevant to the final examination, are awarded upon passing the final examination of the course and respectively of the graduation exam.

The grade, evaluated on a scale of thirty, is not taken into account in the formation of the average on which the final grade is calculated.

The examination is oral, being understood that the Professor can provide for a preliminary written test, to be divulged by the Faculty Bulletin and the examination calendar.

The provision of the intermediate verification form is at the discretion of the Professor who, in this case, shall communicate his/her decision through appropriate notification on the web site of the Faculty. 

Graduation requirements

Qualification is obtained upon achievement of 300 credits. The final examination involves the presentation of a written paper, which is discussed by the candidate before the graduation Board, composed of seven members.

The grading to be awarded to the final examination is evaluated on a scale of 110, with the possibility to confer honours, as the maximum grading, unanimously by the members of the Board.

Mode of study (full-time, part-time, e-learning, ...)

Attendance is highly recommended. Attendance of courses, although strongly recommended, is not compulsory. Students can also choose a part – time curriculum, whose study programme has a double duration with respect to the ordinary one.

 

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples

The qualification is a condition for admission in Schools of Specialization for Legal Professions, also in view of improving the requirement for admission to public exams for magistrate judge and manager in public administrations; it entitles graduates to qualify as lawyers and to be admitted to PhDs in juridical subjects. The degree also entitles graduates to participate in  public exams for Magistracy, Public Notary and for qualification as a lawyer, upon eventual prior legal apprenticeship provided for by the current legislation.

 

Access to further studies

The Master’s Degree in Law will provide access to subsequent curricula, such as Vocational Masters courses,  PhDs, research fellows and School of Specialization for Legal Professions.
