Profile of the programme

The Master’s Degree in Business Communication aims to train professionals to work in the field of communication in complex organizations, both private and public, by providing
the necessary theoretical and practical professional skills. Students will be able to orient themselves in the public/private or non-profit sectors, depending on the choices made
among the courses offered.

Qualification requirements and regulations

The Degree course in Business Communication has a duration of 2 years, during which the student must obtain 120 credits. Formation activities, which last six months, take place through face-to-face classes, exercises, and seminars.

Key learning outcomes

Graduates will possess the theoretical tools necessary to interpret the problems of communication in complex organizations in both the private and public sectors. They will mature sufficient skills, through attendance and by passing specific course exams in all those fields (economy, politics and law) that define, characterize and define the action of the latter.

They will be able to develop organizational and managerial skills as well as define and assess their institutional mission. Knowledge and comprehension skills will be acquired through lectures in basic theoretical courses (Public Communication, Law and Politics of Economics).

Students of this Master’s Degree course will have the tools necessary to interpret and
evaluate the performance of complex organizations in communication, as well as their marketing position.

Some courses in particular, will allow the student to develop capacity for analysis and evaluation especially in communication. The development mode of even the most professionalizing courses and exams aims at developing student’s interpretation autonomy and judgment.

Examination regulations, assessment and grading

Each course ends with a final examination (on a scale of 30)
which may be either oral or written. Laboratories are evaluated using a pass/fail grade.

Graduation requirements

The final examination is the culmination of a formative programme which began with the Bachelor’s degree and was subsequently completed and heightened with the Master’s. For this reason the student is expected to be able to join and use the various skills acquired, in the diverse curricular fields, in a systematic and critical way.

Therefore, the type of work requested is not simply drawing up a written
compilation but the student must demonstrate his/her ability to critically interpret and link the gained learning experiences into a rich, original and systematic work.

In the final examination, totaling 27 credits, the student must show ability in systematically organizing, as agreed upon with the thesis supervisor, an independent and original research project. He must also be able to demonstrate, in a broad prospective, that he/she has acquired sufficient knowledge on the relevant literature regarding his/her thesis. The following points are also expected to be met: reach a sufficient level of critical and interpretive capacities, not limited to the summary and/or synthesis of basic texts; be able to connect different disciplines and approaches; apply to the specific selected topic the acquired skills and, in the case of a thesis project, know how to use them to plan and manage communication projects.

The development of the thesis must therefore be such as to show the achievement of both a
sufficient critical and interpretative capacity and that of empirical application and projection, by using the acquired skills.
The amount of work involved, equaling a large number of credits, must be articulated as part of a sustained commitment over time, dedicated to collecting, elaborating, processing and synthesizing material and documents in view of drafting the written dissertation.

Mode of study (full-time, part-time, e-learning, ...)

Attendance is not obligatory but highly recommended. If students are unable to attend classes, arrangements may be made with course professors.

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples

Graduates may find employment in companies and
business organizations and industry, public administration and
political organizations. They may also initiate individual consulting and supporting activities in complex structures in the same fields.

Access to further studies

Specialization and doctoral courses are the natural continuation of the studies undertaken.
