Specific admission requirements and specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning
Applicants to the degree program in Communications Sciences must hold a diploma from an Italian upper level secondary school or an equivalent diploma attained abroad and recognized as equivalent. There is an entrance exam for purposes of orientation which consists in the composition of a written text. The purpose of the test is to ascertain the applicant’s synthesize and communicate information in written form as well as their general knowledge of current events. Applicants whose skills are judged insufficient will be assigned to attend remedial courses in the category of “Other didactic activities.” Those achieving a subsequent evaluation of suitability will be attributed three credits (ECTS credits) among those allocated to “Other didactic activities.”
Profile of the programme
The degree program in the Communication Sciences aims to provide students with the basic theoretical concepts and essential practical-professional skills needed to work in the various practical/professional areas of communication and/or to pursue further studies in specialization programs.
Qualification requirements and regulations
The first cycle degree in Communications Sciences is a three year program during which students must acquire 180 credits (ECTS credits). Didactic activities, organized in semesters, consist of lecures, exercises, and seminars.
Key learning outcomes
The degree program is designed to help students acquire basic skills in the various fields of communication through the study of the training literature that is internationalized recognized and adopted. To this end, primarily through lecture courses, students will learn the concepts which make up the indispensable framework for every future advanced study or professional training in the fields of communication in general (linguistics, semiotics, sociology of culture, theories and techniques of mass communication, etc.).
The program is also designed to help students develop, by way of concrete practical experience and professional writing and multimedia workshops, the skills needed to produce elementary texts and audio/visual presentations, in the various media, from mass communication, with particular emphasis on new media, to public sector and business communication.
Examination regulations, assessment and grading
Each course concludes with a written or oral final exam marked on a thirty point scale. Professional workshops are marked on a pass/fail basis.
Graduation requirements
The final comprehensive exam, worth 6 credits, consists in the composition of a written product which may be presented in various forms. It could be a synthesis of a number of readings chosen with the advice of a faculty supervisor, a communications project, a short research paper, or an analysis of a communications plan. The form of the thesis will be established by the faculty supervisor, taking account of the student’s specific curriculum and professional interests.
The subject of the thesis and its manner of execution must be strictly related to the chosen discipline and must focus on an aspect of communication in the context of the specific discipline.
The thesis must demonstrate the candidate’s capacity to synthesize and contextualize the theme of the thesis. The thesis must be approximately 30 pages long and include a bibliography presented in accordance with international standards. The thesis will be discussed before a thesis commission.

Regular attendance of all courses is recommended. Students unable to attend classes may arrange a special study plan with the faculty member teaching the course.

The degree program in Communication Sciences aims to train entry-level professionals able to work productively in the different fields of communication with special emphasis on communication for private enterprises and public institutions.
Access to further studies
The degree in Communication Sciences meets the requirements for admission to the master’s degree program in Institutional and Business Communication offered by the Università degli Studi di Perugia and to similar programs at other universities.
