Key learning outcomes

The general objectives and the structure of the program of study are based on the Ministerial Decree for New Degree Classes – Regulations for Masters Degree courses that define the master’s degree courses with respect to the directives of the European Union and the teaching guidelines of the Università degli Studi di Perugia.

Knowledge and understanding – the Master’s degree graduate in dentistry and dental prosthesis must acquire a solid preparation in basic disciplines, medical disciplines related to dentistry and of the dental discipline and must to able to critically evaluate problems related to the stomatognatic apparatus in a comprehensive manner that takes into account the overall health of the individual patient.  Passing the theoretical and/or practical tests proves that the objectives have been met.

Applying knowledge and understanding – the Master’s degree graduate in dentistry and dental prosthesis should have increased his/her knowledge of the basics for a qualitative and quantitative understanding of biological, physiological and pathological phenomena for maintaining oral health and to know the different dental treatments through training experiences, which are part of the course.

The progressive acquisition of these skills is verified by passing practical tests and acquiring the ECTS credits of the mandatory training.

Making judgements – the Master’s degree graduate in dentistry and dental prosthesis must have a level of professional, cultural, decision-making and operative autonomy, so as to be up-to-date, having completed an educational program characterized by a comprehensive approach to the problems of oral health in healthy and sick people, also in relation to the surrounding physical and social environment. The graduate must also be able to carry out statistical evaluations on the basis of tools made available to him/her during the course of study. Practice in making judgements and interpretations is stimulated during the course of study through lectures and exams, but above all through practical experiences that place the students before real problems that they must study, address and if possible resolve alone or in groups under the supervision of the professors involved.

Communication skills - the Master’s Degree graduate in dentistry and dental prosthesis must know how to relate with medical and dental colleagues with collaborators and with patients.  Communication skills are particularly developed during the time of the master’s thesis. Communicative skills are acquired during the degree course through preparing seminars and reports under the supervision of professors and tutors and verified during the exams of the various subjects.  Knowledge of English is developed during a specific course.

Learning skills  The graduate develops learning skills that allow him/her to continue to study mostly through self-directed or autonomous study. During the degree course, verification of the final results is associated with exams and individual and group activities under the direction of the professors involved and tutors.

The final mark is based on the outcome of the individual courses and on the final test including a written thesis or research and its defence before a commission of at least eleven professors and the mark is expressed in one hundred tenths and when appropriate, the awarding of honours.
