Specific admission requirements and specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning
Requested: High School diploma or equivalent foreign diploma or another suitable title see (DM 270/04, Art. 6, paragraphs 1 and 2). A non-selective but prove performance goal orientation (PPGO) qualifying entry exam is required. Specific remedial courses will be available.
Profile of the programme
The undergraduate will acquire theoretical and methodological knowledge of social science to study and understand social models, in the areas of legal sociology, deviance and social change, in geopolitics and in the juridical-political area. The undergraduate will reach cultural preparation and theoretical and practical training enabling him/her to manage and coordinate actions for the protection and safety of public and private interests. He/She will be able to apply acquired knowledge to find solutions for problems related to security (from the protection of national and international strategic interests to the management of organizational and functional systems for territory, citizens, goods and information).
Qualification requirements and regulations
The Degree Course totals 180 ECTS credits and provides 2 semesters with each 12 weeks of attendance totally 60 ECTS credits per year. For more information, please refer to the Academic Regulations in www.unipg.it / sdf.
Key learning outcomes
Knowledge and under standing
Undergraduates acquire theoretical knowledge and skills in the areas envisaged by the appropriate disciplinary and interdisciplinary understanding of the problematic situations in the various fields of social security. In particular, they acquire methodologies, knowledge and skills to assess possible risks and establishing safety procedures.
Applying knowledge and understanding
Undergraduates acquire applications and operating skills to understand individual, group and more complex social and work-environment issues and be able to plan and discuss, at a professional level, solutions and interventions for risk prevention.
Making judgements
Undergraduates acquire skills to gather information, analyze and revise data, and to manage risk situations; they will be able to develop interventions and evaluate efficiency and effectiveness and will be able to identify appropriate instruments for the safety of sites, structures, individuals and groups.
Communication skills
Undergraduates acquire skills for successful communication of ideas and solutions that will be used, at both the theoretical and practical level, for the preparation of projects and operational plans; they will be able to explain in a straightforward, simple and without ambiguity or uncertainty, reflections, techniques and elaborate operational processes; they will know how to draft press releases and service documents aimed at managing risk and safety practices.
Learning skills
Undergraduates will develop the ability to acquire in-depth knowledge and think critically to such an extent that they may continue autonomously, a study profile in the social sciences and security areas.
Examination regulations, assessment and grading
At the end of the single courses, assessment will be verified in written, and/or oral, and ongoing forms through exams with a grade on a scale of 30. The audit standards are determined by the rules laid down in the Academic Regulations of the University.
Graduation requirements
Students are admitted to the final examination once all credits required in the curriculum, and passed, have been met. The final examination consists of a written thesis on a specific subject or on the basis of a significant and defining experience during student placements/internships and monitored and coordinated by a professor. The dissertation will be presented and discussed by the student before a board of degree course professors who will subsequently evaluate it.

Full-time study; 75% attendance of all lectures is compulsory.
Occupational profiles of graduates with examples
Undergraduates may access competitions for the armed forces, law enforcement and local police. May be employed in security organization and management of ports, airports, large companies, banks, and in all areas where a security system for the protection of citizens is needed; may organize security services for major events. They may also work for security in the field tourism and entertainment fields.
Access to further studies
Undergraduates may access Master Degree courses and Master’s in Sociology.
