Specific admission requirements and specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning

In order to enrol on the undergraduate degree course, students must have a diploma from a Secondary School or another equivalent qualification, obtained abroad and recognized suitable. This Degree course does not have limited enrolment. Students are required to have an adequate basic preparation, which will be verified via a written test before the beginning of classes, in the following subjects: history and contemporary general culture. In case of failure, students are required to take preparatory activities during the first year.

 

Profile of the programme

The undergraduate degree course aims at forming undergraduates with a solid scientific preparation in the social science sectors and proposes to give them adequate professional skills to operate in the area of social services. 

Qualification requirements and regulations

The undergraduate degree course has a duration of 3 years during which the student must obtain 180 ECTS credits including those relative to the compulsory acquisition of an EU foreign language. Formative activities, organized in semesters, include lectures, seminars, 2 stages within public organizations and a final examination. 

Key learning outcomes

Undergraduates in Social Services acquire the following skills and know-how:

- social intervention for the prevention, support and recovery of
individuals, families and groups in need and distress, including promoting and
managing collaborations with voluntary organizations and the third sector;

- management tasks, collaboration with organizing and planning, coordinating and directing of specific interventions in the field of social services and relative policies.

Moreover, undergraduates will develop judgment autonomy with respect to:

- providing information and communication in social services and users’ rights;

- educational and training activities related to the training of students in the degree course of Social Services;

- collecting and processing social and psycho-social data.

In addition, the undergraduate will also be sensitized on focusing his attention on the
reflexivity of his/her professional practice (personal adequacy) and possess ability to
communicate clearly and with appropriate language with colleagues, individuals and other
professionals and interlocutors, both nationally and internationally.

Examination regulations, assessment and grading

Individual exam description may be found in each course description.
Most exams are oral even though some may be in written form as well. The relevant examinations are assessed on a scale of 30 and, where appropriate, with honours.

There is a final examination which involves the presentation of a written paper to be discussed before a Board of 3 Professors and may receive from 0 to 4 points. The final grade is composed of singular course grades plus points for the written paper. Thus, the final grade is assessed on a scale of 110 and, where appropriate, with honours.

Graduation requirements

The final qualification is awarded upon the attainment of 180 ECTS credits and upon the presentation and discussion of a written paper.

Mode of study (full-time, part-time, e-learning, ...)

Full time study and attendance is recommended, however, part-time study is also possible; attendance is not compulsory and students can sit exams according to their rhythm and needs.

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples

Undergraduates in Social Services may carry out professional activities in various areas, such as: private, national and multinational organizations; governments; public, national, supra-national and international organizations; third sector non-governmental organizations and businesses.

These activities are carried out in the following different areas: aid in social inclusion, preventive-promotional, organizational, educational, training and research.
The skills acquired allow participation in the qualifying examination necessary to practice
as a social worker and be enrolled in the relevant Regional Register
(Register B).

Access to further studies

The qualification provides access to the Master’s Degree Course in Sociology and Social Politics and, in general, to the master’s courses available holders of degrees in Social Services and Social Politics.
