Specific admission requirements and specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning

Enrolment on the Degree course is subject to the verification of possession of curricular requirements and personal preparation. It is necessary to have obtained a first cycle degree and to have completed at least 60 credits in the scientific disciplines listed in the relevant Didactic Regulation, available on the web site of the Faculty. Furthermore, those who have obtained the first cycle degree with a grade lower than 90/110 are required to take and pass a test assessing their personal preparation.

Profile of the programme

The Degree course in SPG aims at training the following professional figures : a) experts in politics and administration in a global sense; b) executive managers in public and private bodies with high responsibility roles in sectors of active administration, study, research, planning and management of enterprises. This kind of training is particularly suitable for managing employment in public administration, associations, parties, trade unions and the third sector. The Degree course is divided into two curricula: a) Curriculum in Political Systems and Models, which trains experts in politics and administration, with high methodological multi – disciplinary knowledge and skills; b) Curriculum in Administration and Government Sciences, which trains experts as executive managers with high multi – disciplinary skills for high responsibility roles in public administrations and, in general, in the third sector.

Qualification requirements and regulations

The Degree course in SPG has a duration of 2 years, during which the student must obtain 120 credits. Formation activities, which last six month, are carried out through face to face classes, seminars, exercises, group work, case studies and other “formative activities” as internships, recognition of other formative or professional activities. The curriculum of each student is oriented by the staff of the didactic secretary’s office and a tutor. For learning assessments, Professors can use written examinations with the development of subject matter and/or tests, oral examinations. In any case, the modes of learning assessments terminates by an individual examination with a single final grade.

Key learning outcomes

Graduates in SPG acquire and are able to use specific know how skills, peculiar to experts of politics and administration, with high methodological multi - disciplinary skills and competences. In particular, graduates in SPG, curriculum in Political Systems and Models, acquire the ability to elaborate plans and programmes in the specific fields both of public policies and of private enterprises; to be responsible for service management and for management of human resources; to carry out private professions, to manage research and planning in public and private organizations. Graduates in SPG, curriculum in Administration and Government Sciences, acquire executive – managerial skills with high multi – disciplinary abilities for high responsibility roles in public and private sectors engaged in providing general interest services.

Graduates in SPG are able to apply the know how abilities acquired, also thanks to basic computer skills and English knowledge. These abilities are acquired through the participation in seminars and class exercises and are assessed through examinations and/or specific written works, according to the modes set forth by the Didactic Regulation.

Graduates in SPG acquire judgement autonomy regarding information reliability, necessary for the activities which characterize their work, in order to decide, in a critical and synthetic way, how to solve problems. The Master’s degree course aims at preparing graduates able to focus their attention on the ability to be (have a sensibility for political, economical and social matters peculiar to contemporary society).

Furthermore, they have the ability to communicate clearly, and with appropriate language, information, ideas and solutions to problems to interlocutors, specialized or not, in a national or international context, through correct written and oral forms. They are able to use the main tools of Information and Communication Technology and have communication and relationship skills for teamwork or within an interdisciplinary field.

Examination regulations, assessment and grading

Examinations take place in an oral form before a Board of at least two Professors. For learning assessments, Professors can use written tests, oral tests with interviews, discussion of papers and critical analysis of texts. Professors may use forms of exemption in itinere, which are valid only upon passing the single oral exam. Examinations related to single courses are assessed on a scale of 30, with eventual honours. The final grade is based on the outcomes of single courses and on the final examination, which includes the presentation of a written research work and its discussion before a Board of at least 7 Professors. It is assessed on a scale of 110 and, where appropriate, with honours.

Graduation requirements

The final qualification is awarded upon achievement of 120 credits and the approval of a written paper.

Mode of study (full-time, part-time, e-learning, ...)

Full-time study and attendance is recommended. However, part – time study is possible.

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples

Occupational opportunities are identified within managerial careers of public administration, public and private organizations and, in general, third sector and private professions, where multidisciplinary skills and knowledge are required to deal with complex problems such as planning, managerial tasks, innovation and simplification, assessment of proceedings and of public and private activities’ outcomes and management of human resources.

Access to further studies

The qualification provides access to vocational second level Masters, PhDs and Schools of Specialization, in Italy and abroad.
