Level of qualification
Second level
Specific admission requirements and specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning
Candidates must have a three-year degree of Category L-22 (as specified in DM 270/04) or of Category 33 (as specified in DM 509/99), or a four-year degree in Kinesiology (Old Program), or equivalent qualifications in order to enroll in the Advanced Degree Program. Enrollment in the Degree program is open to a limited number of candidates: (a yearly total of 38 places available; 35 to EU students; 3 places available to non-EU students, 1 of which reserved for students from the P.R.C. in the Marco Polo contingent). Profile of the programme
The main objective of the Program is to provide graduates with advanced scientific knowledge of human movement with particular attention to preventive and adapted areas. Students will learn to maintain an optimum level of physical efficiency throughout an individual’s entire life span, in normal subjects as well as those who are predisposed to and/or affected by pathologies due to sedentary or insalubrious lifestyles. They will also learn to adapt motor skills to individuals with physical disabilities or affected by pathologies and who will therefore benefit from physical exercise including motor skills enabling prevention and rehabilitation. Situations of childhood and adolescent disturbances will also be addressed.
Qualification requirements and regulations
The Advanced Degree Program in the Science and Techniques of Preventive and Adapted Kinesiology LM-67 is a two-year program in which a student must obtain 120 credits (ECTS credits). Didactic activity for each year is divided in two semesters.
Key learning outcomes
Graduates in the Advanced Program can: evaluate the physical condition of subjects performing movements, in relation to their age, gender and state of health; recognize the early warning signs of problems and evaluate the vital parameters; recognize situations that require medical attention; perform first aid procedures and techniques; recognize the safety conditions of equipment and the environment; understand the way in which the human body will respond to physical exercises of varied intensity, both in a good state of health and in stable and controlled clinical conditions, during or after a variety of pathologies, in concomitance with gender, age and state of physical fitness, pharmacological treatments that may interact with the exercises, the physiopathological and clinical conditions that may benefit from appropriate programs of physical activity and the limits on physical activity due to such clinical conditions, the epidemiology and risk factors related to physical activity, in both healthy individuals as well as in patients in clinically stable conditions, the principles of evaluation of the state of health of individuals and prescription of physical activity, with specific consideration for gender and state of health in order to achieve preventive, corrective and post-rehabilitation goals. Furthermore, graduates posses knowledge in social-psychology, sociology and special pedagogy and are therefore able to evaluate the personal and socio-environmental conditions of individuals and to communicate effectively with them in light of specific conditions of age, state of health and socio-cultural context.
Examination regulations, assessment and grading
Evaluation of student progress takes place during the courses and is certified with examinations. Evaluation during the course (in itinere) is designed to demonstrate the efficacy of the learning process and teaching of specific subjects. The certified evaluation (through examination) of the uniform parts of the program, which may be preceded by both oral and written tests, are designed to measure the achievement of the objectives of the course certifying the degree of the students’ preparation. These exams are graded on a 30 point scale and possible laude.
Graduation requirements
The degree is granted upon completion of 120 credits. The final grade is based on the results obtained in the single courses and on the final exam which consists in the presentation of a written report (a compiled or experimental thesis) and a discussion of the same before a degree commission of at least seven professors. The final grade is in 100 percentile points with a possible cum laude.
Mode of study (full-time, part-time, e-learning, ...)
Mandatory and full time attendance is required for the Advanced Degree program in the Science and Techniques of Preventive and Adapted Kinesiology.
Occupational profiles of graduates with examples
Graduates plan and implement programs of physical activity and sports designed to: prevent illnesses and improve the quality of life; recover post-rehabilitation movement in order to maintain physical efficiency; promote active life styles in order to achieve and maintain psycho-physical wellbeing for individuals of different ages with specific attention to gender and different physical conditions; prevention and correction of poor posture. Furthermore, graduates plan, coordinate, manage and evaluate physical activity and sports to improve health in the community. They plan, coordinate, manage and evaluate adapted physical activity and sports for differently abled people or for individuals with clinically controlled health conditions. Graduates practice their professions in preschools, elementary and secondary schools, and in gymnasiums in which they carry out activities for prevention, maintenance, recovery and development of physical efficiency. They also work in swimming pools, sports centers, social-educational centers, hotels and tourist centers, centers for health and wellbeing, private clubs and homes, traing centers for the Armed Forces and the Corps for security and defense of the State. In addition they may be employed in private and public parks where there are individual and group programs for physical activity to promote better health, tourist recreation, education and psycho-physical activities for children, adults, the elderly and disabled.
Access to further studies
Completion of the Advanced degree permits enrollment as a Doctor of Research and University Masters Program of the second level.
