Contents
The General and Molecular Biochemistry course introduces the student to the structure and functions of molecules of biological interest, their metabolism and their metabolic interactions and their role in various organs and tissues.

Educational objectives
Students must achieve a high level of knowledge of the structure of biological molecules (glucids, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids), the functioning of enzymes, the anabolic and catabolism metabolism of macromolecules, structure and function of vitamins, of trace elements and hormones and their role in the different metabolisms.
Prerequisites
It is indispensable to have passed the exam of organic chemistry

Introduction to the course: physics and chemistry recalls for biochemistry
The water, its ionization, weak acids and weak bases, buffer systems, water as reagent
Glucosides: structure and function of monosaccharides, disaccharides, polisaccharides, proteoglicans, glycoproteins, and glycosphingolipids, saccharide code
Lipids: structure and function of fatty acids, triglycerides, phosphoglycerolipids, sphingolipids, and cholesterol
Amino acids, peptides and proteins, protein denaturation, structure and function of the different proteins.
Nucleic acids: structure and functions
Vitamins water-soluble and fat-soluble
Minerals
Enzymatic proteins: physical-chimical properties, enzyme kinetics, examples of enzymes, regulatory enzymes
Bioenergetics : chemical equations, transfer of phosphate groups and ATP, redox reactions
Signal transduction
Glucoside metabolism: glycolysis, gluconeogenesis, pentose phosphate pathway, glycogen synthesis.
Lipid metabolism: catabolism and anabolism of fatty acids, triglycerides, phospholipids, sphingolipids and cholesterol
Ketonic bodies: synthesis and role
Amino acid and protein metabolism: oxidation of amino acids and urea production, biosynthesis of amino acids, protein synthesis and degradation
Nucleotide metabolism: synthesis and degradation. Genetic code, oncogenes and oncosuppressors
