Contents
The aim of the course is to provide the student with theoretical/conceptual tools to understand the most recent developments in the field of Cognitive Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience.
Reference texts
Mandatory text for all students:
- Purves, D., Cabeza, R., Huettel, S.A., LaBar, K.S., Platt, M.L., Woldorff, M.G. (2013). Principles of Cognitive Neuroscience. Sinauer Associated, Inc.
Educational objectives
By the end of the course the student has to know the most recent developments in the study of cognitive processes and related neural correlates, being able to report this information in a clear and organized fashion.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of general psychology; bases of cerebral anatomy and physiology; basic knowledge of statistics.
Teaching methods
Frontal lectures.
Learning verification modality
In order to promote the student’s comprehension, expository and synthetic capabilities in relation to the different topics of the course, a written examination including both multiple choice and open-ended questions will be employed. Specifically, the exam will include 25 multiple choice questions (1 correct response out of 4; 1 point for the correct response; 0 points for incorrect responses) and an open-ended question. The scoring for the open-ended question can range between 0 and 6 points. It will be assessed not only the quantity of information reported but, most importantly, the student’s capacity to provide a clear and well-organized response. The final grade will result from the sum of the score obtained at the multiple choice test (25/30) and at the open-ended question (6/30). To access the open-ended question the score at the multiple choice test must be equal or above to 15/25 (i.e., 15 correct responses out of 25 quizzes). The duration of the examination is 40 minutes (25 minutes for the multiple choice test, plus 15 minutes for the open-ended question).

Deadline for registration: 48 hours before the exam. Students must registers online at the link https://unipg.esse3.cineca.it/Home.do
