Contents
Module A
Analysis of some aspects of the syntactic structure of the French language: formal and semantic ambiguities.
The course aims to move from the study of the grammatical elements of the sentence to the analysis of the structure of the text by examining problems of a stylistic and rhetorical nature.
Module B
the module focuses on issues related to the practice of translation: transposition, modulation, adaptation, transcription. Analysis of textual, syntactic and lexical strategies.
Ample space is reserved for the practice of translation, carried out on significant texts of French literature (from the 19th to the 21st century).
Module C
Some topics related to the history of translation and the theory of translation will be treated. Specialized translation: literary translation: lexical and terminological aspects of the specialized language. Standards and conventions of specialist translation.

Educational objectives
The French Language II course has as its main objective the acquisition of knowledge and skills suitable for achieving level B1 of the CECR. This objective will be achieved through a set of activities aimed at enhancing oral and written comprehension / production, as well as the deepening of knowledge of syntactic, stylistic and lexical elements. The course also aims to improve translation skills. At the end of the course, the student must be able to recognize, analyze and critically explain the main translation difficulties.
Prerequisites
In order to follow and understand the course, the student must have a level of linguistic competence equal to the A2 of the QCER
Teaching methods
The methods followed will be "the communicative approach" flanked by the application of the main semiotic communication strategies. The lessons will also include written and oral exercises. The active participation of students will be encouraged and the expression of personal solutions will be encouraged in order to facilitate the acquisition of the course contents.
Other information
Students will regularly find the teaching material used during the lessons on unistudium. This material becomes an integral part of the course program.

Students with disabilities and / or with SLD, after consultation with the teacher, can request any educational materials in accessible formats (presentations, handouts) as well as the use of other technological tools to facilitate the study phase.
For the methods of carrying out the verification tests, students with disabilities and / or with SLD can take advantage of the inclusive technologies, the compensatory tools and the dispensatory measures provided for by the legislation, after consultation with the teacher.
Learning verification modality
The course includes the following learning tests:
1. written test: translation: passive translation of an excerpt from a literary text, and short answers in French to a series of questions concerning the text being translated.
The exclusive use of the monolingual dictionary is allowed
2. Oral exam, in French, in which the topics covered during the entire course will be addressed

With regard to students with disabilities and / or with SLD: students can take advantage of inclusive technologies, compensatory tools and dispensatory measures provided for by the legislation. Technologies, tools and measures must be requested and agreed with the teacher well in advance of the tests.

Extended program

The purpose of the course is to consolidate the student's linguistic competence, through the formal study of the syntactic structures of the French language in view of an in-depth analysis of textual grammar, with particular reference to literary texts. The course has as a further objective the development of translation skills and a comparison with the different text types. From a historical-methodological perspective, some elements of the main translation theories will be analyzed and the basic aspects of translation techniques will be presented, with particular regard to the methods prevalent in the practice of translating from French into Italian in the literary field. With a view to integrating theory and practice, the translation process will be studied as an element of cultural and linguistic mediation. Finally, the problems relating to the translation of various literary texts will be addressed with particular attention to the context and purpose of each piece proposed.

The course also aims to improve translation skills. At the end of the course, the student must be able to recognize, analyze and critically explain the main translation difficulties.
Prerequisites
In order to follow and understand the course, the student must have a level of competence
linguistics equal to the A2 of the CEFR

Didactic methods

1. written test: translation: passive translation of a passage taken from a literary text and the completion with a series of answers of a grid of questions relating to the understanding of the enunciative framework of the text to be translated.
The exclusive use of the monolingual dictionary is allowed
2. Oral exam, in French in which the topics covered during the entire course will be addressed
