Contents
The course will examine the phonetic, morphological and syntactic basic structures and the essential lexical and semantic elements for the understanding of communication in Portuguese. They will also be the key financial instruments for critical-methodological study and analysis of the language variant European and Brazilian, integrating, when relevant, historical-cultural elements.

Educational objectives
The course has the purpose of bring students to the acquisition of language from beginners level up to level A2 of competence and at the same time provide the basic elements for the meta-linguistic reflection on the phonetic system, morphological and syntactic structure of Portuguese. In view of the acquisition and contrastive reflection on basic communication facilities, during the course they will be explained morphological structures and elementary syntactic and lexical and semantic issues related to language use; It will be also provide the main critical methodological tools for the study and analysis of language variation in European and Brazilian. After completing the course, students must have a thorough knowledge of the metalanguage and of the different aspects of a descriptive-analytic model of the Portuguese language and Brazilian and be competent in all the communicative skills to level A2 of the parameters set by the Common European Framework of Reference for Knowledge of languages. In addition, must demonstrate their proficiency and have the domain of communication tools to communicate in everyday situations of immediate relevance, as well as the ability to understand and produce written and oral independent of short texts of linguistic content elementary.

Teaching methods
Lectures and exercitation performed on both semesters. For the three modules that make up the course of official teaching (lectures), equivalent to 9 credits, they correspond eighty hours of exercises and laboratory activities, held at CLA (University Language Centre), which provides tools and activities materials essential to the achievement of the level B1 language proficiency according to the Common Framework of the Council of Europe, corresponds to Cipla (Certificado Inicial de Português Língua Estrangeira).
Other information
The course is annual, first and second module (each one of 36 hours of lessons) will be held in the first semester and the third one (18 hours of lessons) in the second semesterWhen possible, courses will be integrated with extracurricular activities, including, transversal and multidisciplinary seminars, held by the professor in charge of the course or by visiting professors, movies or documentaries sessions and the organization of translation’s workshops, in order to accelerate and complete language skills of students. Moreover, it is expected, if ever possible, the use of computer aids and multimedia. During the month of May there are regular recuperation courses for the first year of the course, targeting all students in default of exams o the modules, all of them that can’t attend lectures or who have gaps to be complete.
Learning verification modality
Final written examination with a single vote. Notwithstanding that the assessment consists of a single vote be recorded during the final exam dates set in the calendar, is prepared, at the end of the first two modules, a partial evaluation, which can access only the students who have attended at least 70% lessons provided. The self-certification or certification of absences in the lessons is not valid with reference to the individual modules, but only when the student make the test (in part or in its entirety) the dates on the calendar. Non-attending students must contact the teacher to establish supplementary materials.
At the CLA, the student must complete, at the end of the cycle of exercises a level test (A2), considered propaedeutic for the exams held in the Department.

The evaluation will consist in several stages. As for the language course Portuguese and Brazilian I, prepared by the professor responsible for the discipline, the tests performed in test mode
Module I: dictation; four sets of exercises on a closed question and phonetic spelling.
Module II: five sets of exercises on closed question morphology Portuguese.
Module III: three groups of exercises on closed question on topics of Portuguese syntax; request of a short paper in Portuguese language and a brief translation from Italian into Portuguese.

With the exception of the first module, exams / tests can be carried out with the support of the bilingual dictionary

The course is composed by three modules:

Module I: phonetic, phonological and orthographic structures of the Portuguese language.

Module II: basic morphological structures of the Portuguese language.
Module III: basic syntactic structures of the Portuguese language
