Pathways to Pregnancy and Parturition. by P.L. Senger - Educational objectives
- Provide the basics of the physiology of reproduction in domestic animals, embryo transfer techniques, in vitro fertilization of egg cells, collection, evaluation and conservation of seminal material
- Prerequisites
- The student, in order to understandand how to apply most of the reproductive techniques of the dog,the cat and of livestock. In addition, other topics covered in the module require the ability to interpret the various tests such as the ultrasonography and endoscopic of reproductive tract in different species, endocrinological examinations, vaginal citology and spermiograms. The knowledge of the above is a prerequisite for the student who wants to follow the course with profit.
- Teaching methods
- Teoretical lessons will be carried out in the classroom, while the practices at the laboratories of the Department of Veterinary Medicine
- Learning verification modality
- oral exam
- Extended program
- Outlines of the anatomy of the male and female reproductive system.
- Reproductive endocrinology: hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. Pituitary gonadotropins, steroid hormones.
- Reproductive physiology: oogenesis and folliculogenesis. Ovulation and corpus luteum formation. Spermatogenesis. Preimplantation embryonic development. Reproductive cycle: estrous cycles and menstrual cycle.
-Hormonal control of the ovarian cycle: Synchronization and superovulation techniques, artificial insemination (AI) and embryo transfer (ET).
