- The course will investigate such topics as YAL (Young Adult Literature), and will analyze two novel sin depth, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by MArk Twain and The Wizard of OZ by Frank Baum. These texts will lend themselves to the investigation of the pedagogical power of literature, alongside the study of the hisotry of kids and teenagers in the 19th century USA.
- Reference texts
- Erasmus students will have to read the latest Norton Critical Edition of Mark Twain's "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" which is available in the University Library. Students should contact dr. Clericuzio in order to have a specific program for them in English.
- Educational objectives
- Students will have to be able to contextualize the two texts against the historical and literary background of 19th century America. Such matters as censorship, racial issues and gender divide will be of utmost importance in the analysis of the novels.

- No prerequisites are required.

- Traditional classes, group debates, seminaries, audiovisual supports.

- Erasmus students will read the texts in English and study the Frontier Theory as put forth by Frederick Jackson Turner in 1893.

- Erasmus students will have to contact dr. Clericuzio in order to choose a form of evaluation.
- Extended program
- Erasmus students will have to read Frank Baum's The Wizard of OZ, possibly in the Italian edition published by Marsilio, that has the original text in English and a useful introduction in Italian. They will also have to read Twain's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn in the NORTON critical Edition including 3 essays to be chosen with the teacher's approval.
