Educational objectives | The learning outcomes are compliant with the provisions of the Degree Programme Regulations as published on the website: http: //www.med.unipg.it/ccl The main knowledge that students will acquire include the: - relevance of social and health effects of work-related accidents at work and occupational diseases; - practice of prevention in the workplace; - occupational diseases most frequently diagnosed in Italy. The main skills that students will acquire consist of: - ability to identify and assess health risks in some working environments; - ability to interpret the results of laboratory and instrumental tests for risk assessment at workplaces. |
Prerequisites | In order to be able to learn and apply in practice the principles of occupational medicine, it is useful that the student: - has passed the examinations of chemistry, biochemistry, immunology, physiology and pathology; - is able to perform a history and physical examination; - knows the main signs and symptoms correlated with diseases of the respiratory and peripheral nervous system, and other systems/organs |
Teaching methods | The course will include: - lectures on all topics of the program. - theoretical / practical activities in the laboratory, ambulatory and hospital ward, focusing on the diagnosis of occupational pulmonary diseases and of occupational and environmental allergies; - Inspection in one or more local industrial companies. |

Learning verification modality | The exam will mainly concern on the issues of occupational medicine and occupational and environmental toxicology that were covered during the formal lectures and supplementary activities. The exam will consist of one oral test, designed to verify the capacity for knowledge and understanding and the ability to apply the acquired skills. During the discussion, lasting about 20-40 minutes, 2 to 4 arguments concerning the teaching program will be discussed. |
