Contents Physiopathology, clinical examination, complications, natural history, diagnosis and therapy of main heart and vessels disease.
Reference texts Braundwald’s Heart Disease. A textbook of Cardiovascular Medicine. 11th Edition
Educational objectives The main course aim is to provide the basis for a correct physiopathological, diagnostic, clinical and therapeutic classification of the main heart and vessels diseases.
Prerequisites Students must have the basic knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the heart and great vessels.
Teaching methods The course is organized with frontal lesson on all the topics of the course, through the projection of slides and films.
Other information The teacher will be available to all students who deem it necessary to investigate, discuss and resolve any questions / problems regarding cardiovascular disease program.
Learning verification modality The learning test will be carried out with interactive questions made at the end of each lesson and / or topic.
The test will be to evaluate the exhibition, analysis, acquired knowledge and critical evaluation skills of individual students.
The final exam includes an oral exam consisting of a discussion lasting about 10 minutes for each question (1-2 questions) with the purpose of ascertaining the level of knowledge and understanding achieved by the student on the theoretical and methodological contents indicated in the program. The oral test will also allow to verify the ability to communicate, the property of language and autonomous organization of the exposition on the topics with a theoretical content.
Extended program The main aim course is to provide the basis for a diagnosis and clinical classification of the main heart and vessels disease and their complications.

- Cardiomyopathies (dilated, hypertrophic, restrictive, arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy, ventricular non-compaction, acute stress myocardopathy): Classification, pathophysiology, etiopathogenesis, hemodynamics, natural history, complications, signs and symptoms. Clinical examination. Indications for surgery.
- Myocarditis
- Acute and chronic pericarditis. Pericardial effusion. Constrictive pericarditis.
- Infectious endocarditis
- Pulmonary embolism. Pulmonary hypertension. Acute and chronic cor pulmonale.
- Acute and chronic heart failure. Cardiogenic pulmonary edema and cardiogenic shock. Heart failure with preserved systolic function.
- Atrial and ventricular hyperkinetic arrhythmias: extra-systolic, paroxysmal tachycardias, fibrillation and flutter.
- Hypokinetic arrhythmias: sino-atrial blocks, bundle branch blocks, atrio-ventricular blocks, Morgagni-Adam-Stokes syndrome
- Ventricular pre-excitation syndrome.
- Cardiac arrest: causes and treatment approach
- Primary and secondary arterial hypertension. Hypertensive heart disease.

Contents Physiopathology, clinical examination, complications, natural history, diagnosis and therapy of mitral and aortic valvulopathies (stenosis and regurgitation) and congenital heart disease. The role of non-invasive cardiovascular imaging in the diagnosis and risk stratification of ischemic heart disease and valvulopathies.
Reference texts Braundwald’s Heart Disease. A textbook of Cardiovascular Medicine. 11th Edition
Educational objectives The main course aim is to provide the basis for a correct physiopathological, diagnostic, clinical and therapeutic classification of the mitral and aortic valvulopathies and their complications. It will also give a general overview of simple and complex congenital heart disease: pathophysiology, clinical, natural history and pharmacological and surgical therapy (corrective and palliative surgery).
Prerequisites Students must have the basic knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the heart and great vessels
Teaching methods The course is organized with: frontal lesson on all the topics of the course, through the projection of slides and films.
Other information The teacher will be available to all students who deem it necessary to investigate, discuss and resolve any questions / problems regarding cardiovascular disease program.

The oral test will also allow to verify the ability to communicate, the property of language and autonomous organization of the exposition on the topics with a theoretical content.
Extended program The teaching will consider valvulopathies and congenital heart diaseases from physiopathology to clinic and diagnosis. The bases of non-invasive cardiovascular imaging use in the clinical-therapeutic management of ischemic heart diaseases and valvulopathies will also be provided.
The main aim course is to provide the basis for a diagnosis and clinical classification of the valvulopathies and congenital heart disease and their complications.

- Valvulopathies: mitral and aortic stenosis and regurgitation. Pathophysiology, aetiopathogenesis, hemodynamics, natural history, symptoms and complications. Clinical examination. Indications for surgery.
- Heart embryology. Physiopathology of congenital heart disease. Classification of congenital heart disease (simple and complex, with pulmonary hyperafflux, with pulmonary hypoafflux). Clinical history. Complications. Hemodynamics. Indications to surgery.
- Role of noninvasive cardiovascular imaging in the diagnosis and risk stratification of ischemic heart disease and of valvulopathies.
