The course will face the molecular aspects of modern microbiology and in particular the evolutionary and genomic aspects of microbial diversity as well as the applications of microrganisms and their metabolism products in industrial microbiology and microbial biotechnology.

Exam about the entire course programme and topics discussed during the lessons and the practical training. Discussion of a peer-review research article chosen by the student on a microbiological topic studied with the experimental approach presented during the Course

Part II: METHODS IN MOLECULAR MICROBIOLOGY.
Culturable and unculturabled microorganisms; Molecular and traditional microbiology; Isolation of microbes environmental and clinical samples; Molecular and taxonomical characterization of microorganisms; Molecular methods for the investigation of microbial communities and their functional activities; Metagenomics.
Part III: INDUSTRIAL MICROBIOLOGY AND MICROBIAL BIOTECHNOLOGY
Microorganisms for industrial e biotechnological applications; Screening and optimization of microbial strains; Fermentors and bioreactors; Scale-up and optimization of industrial processes; Primary and secondary metabolites; Biotransformations; Environmental biotechnology.
