Educational objectives
The course aims to provide the student with the tools for a film analysis in the perspective of a century of film history.
Prerequisites
In order to understand and be able to apply most of the techniques described in the teaching, no special prior knowledge is required.
Teaching methods
The course is organized in the following way: frontal lessons on all the themes and problems related to the history of cinema; projections and analysis of films.
Other information
International and Erasmus students are welcome to take the course. Readings and other course materials are also permitted in English or French or Spanish or German; oral examinations may be taken in English or German or French or Spanish. Contact the lecturer for an appointment.
Learning verification modality
Examination, oral interview. The exam includes only the final oral test, which consists of a discussion-colloquium related to the topics covered during the course and deepened on the recommended texts. The test will be used to ascertain the level of knowledge and the ability to understand, as well as to synthesize, reached by the student. Moreover, this interview will allow to verify the student's ability to communicate the acquired knowledge with method, language and exposition properties. The duration of the exam varies according to the progress of the test itself and usually begins with a question on a topic chosen by the student in order to put him/her at ease.
Extended program
Through the vision of some exemplary films, the course will retrace a century of cinema history: from the Skladanowsky brothers to the definition, also aesthetic, of a specific film, to the advent of sound.
