Educational objectives
Teaching is the first teaching of Biochemistry and examines the macromolecules of the cell, the main nutrients and their impact on the energy cell metabolism.

The main goal of education is to provide students with the bases to address the study of macromolecules in the cells of animals and plants with particular reference to the relationship between structure and function; of metabolic pathways and their interconnections.

The main knowledge gained will be:

-knowledge of the macromolecules present in the cells;

-the characteristics of the enzyme kinetics;

-knowledge base for studying the reactions that occur in the cell, following the rules by the reactions in terms of energy, reaction rate, temperature and pH;

-fondamentali tools and methodologies for the individual macromolecules in the cells. Experimental approach to investigate the complex macromolecular structures.

The main skills are:

-identification of cell markers of the state in physiological and pathological conditions;

-to identify the molecules involved in cell metabolism;

-assess transcription and translation in the genetic information;

-assess the kinetic parameters in the enzymatic activities.
Prerequisites
In order to understand the course content, you must have successfully supported the examination of Chemistry.

In addition, other topics require knowledge of physics, organic chemistry and elements of Mathematics. These skills are a prerequisite for the student who wants to follow the course with profit.
Teaching methods
The course is organized as follows:

-lezione classroom on all the topics of the course;

-esercitazioni at the computer lab for simulation of enzymatic activities and determine the main kinetic parameters.
Learning verification modality
The exam includes an oral examination. The oral exam in a discussion lasting about 40min aimed at ascertaining the level of knowledge and understanding achieved by students on the theoretical and methodological implications mentioned in the program. The oral exam will also test the ability of communication with the student of language and autonomous organization of the exhibition on the same topics in theoretical content.
