Educational objectives This course represents the first module of Energetics and examines the basic elements of the energetics and of the traditional energy sources. The main aim of this teaching is to provide students with the bases needed to address the study of different conventional energy sources, included nuclear energy, and the energy conversion processes.
Main knowledge acquired will be:
knowledge on the genesis of carbon and petroleum hydrocarbons and of the factors that determine their final chemico-physical characteristics;
basic elements of location of oil and carbon fields, oil extraction and recovery, fossil fuels transportation technologies;
basic knowledge to evaluate the energetic and economic efficiency of the main hydrocarbons transportation technologies;
basic elements of main energy conversion processes.
knowledge on the main energy applications in various sectors and the corresponding energy saving actions.
Prerequisites Not required
Teaching methods The course is organized as follow:
lectures on all subjects of the course;
Educational trip (optional) that allows students to verify first-hand what has been shown in class. Every year, during the period between early and late May, it will be organized a one-day trip, in one or more industrial plants inside the region.
