- The course balances both teoretical and practical aspects of management in public administrations.
- Reference texts
- Attending students will be given information and suitable materials to support classroom activities.
To students not attending is recommended meeting the teacher that will suggest some texts. - Educational objectives
- The course aims to provide students with a thorough understanding of the role of the manager in a public administration and the tools at its disposal.
The aim of lectures and seminars is give the knoledge of managerial skills necessary to exercise management function in the public service and give a range of operational capabilities in the application of law .
In particular, at the end of the course, students must have:
- Knowledge and understanding to enable them to understand organizational issues that arise in the management of an administrative department;
- Ability to apply the knowledge gained in assuming organizational solutions in the management of administrative services;
- Ability to integrate knowledge and skills acquired independently by seeking legislation, case law and doctrine in the field of administrative law;
- Ability to communicate appropriately and to argue the possible solutions to organizational problems that arise in the management of services. - Prerequisites
- To address successfully the study of Public Management it is important to have basic knowledge of Public Law and Administrative Law. These can be obtained by several three-year courses or by the study of recommended books for their preparation. During the course, the teacher will seek to report, time to time, what are the specific knowledge required to deal with the different partitions of the program.
- Teaching methods
- The course includes lectures by the teacher, some discussion meetings with senior civil servants of local and national administrations, seminars and case studies.
The exchange with the students is encouraged by presentation and discussion of case studies. - Other information
- The teacher is available to students to agree on further study of the topics of the course, also in relation to the specific interests of the learners. This supplment is optional.
- Learning verification modality
- The assessment is in two stages: an open questionnaire and an oral examination in which the student is invited to comment some of the answers given in the questionnaire. For not attending students there are only oral examinations.
