Educational objectives Lo studente deve acquisire la conoscenza delle principali tecniche di laboratorio per la coltura di batteri e miceti e identificazione dell'agente patogeno responsabile della malattia.
Prerequisites Microbiologia generale e Microbiologia speciale.

Extended program Terreni di coltura solidi e liquidi per la crescita e sviluppo di batteri e miceti, principali colorazioni di Gram e May Gruwald Giemsa, Identificazione tramite MALI-TOFF. Preparazione terreni tramite autoclave.

Educational objectives At the end of this course, students will have been introduced to the concepts of classification and growth of microorganisms and they should understand how microorganisms survive and how they interact with us.
Prerequisites For a proper understanding, the student should have the basic knowledge of cell biology, immunology, physiology and anatomy.
Teaching methods The course will be held through lectures
Other information Compulsory attendance
Learning verification modality The oral test consists of an interview aimed at ascertaining the level of knowledge, the complete understanding and the ability to link on the subjects listed in the program. The oral test will also the communication skills of the student, the use of appropriate language and the ability to synthesize.

FINAL GRADE: average of the grades of the individual teachings.
Extended program Difference between eukaryotic and prokaryotic organisms. Morphology of bacteria. Structure of the prokaryotic cell: cell wall, structures outside the wall, cytoplasmic membrane, cytoplasm, ribosomes, cytoplasmic inclusions. Cell wall (differences between Gram-negative and Gram-positive).
Structures external to the cell wall. The spore bacteria: structure and differentiation. Growth curve.
Pathogenicity and virulence. Virulence determinants. Infectious disease source, penetration and elimination of microorganisms. Bacterial toxins.

The assessment of the Special Microbiology module is integrated with the contents of the other modules of the "Microbiological Sciences 1" course.

Normally the student is asked 1/2 questions per module and the final grade is given by an overall evaluation of the performance in the individual modules
