Contents
Observation and recognition of the geochemical and mineralogical processes that characterise volcanic and geothermal systems, mining areas and hydrothermal systems. Study of the environmental problems and risks associated with the exploitation of geothermal resources, mining sites and volcanic activity. A multidisciplinary approach based on geological, petrographic, mineralogical and geochemical observations will be used during the excursions.

Field-trip guide
Educational objectives
- to be able to work independently and in groups in the field;
- acquire the ability to collect samples of geological matrices (water, gas, rock, soil);
- acquire the ability to write technical reports.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of geochemistry, mineralogy, petrology and volcanology
Teaching methods
Field lessons with practical exercises. The practical activity includes measurements of water physico-chemical parameters and sampling of aqueous ans solid samples.
Other information
Excursions will be organised and coordinated in collaboration with the other courses of the curriculum.
Learning verification modality
final report
Extended program
- Geothermics: characteristics of high and medium-low enthalpy systems.
- Volcanology: field recognition of the main volcanic products
- Volcanic risk and volcanic monitoring
- Mineral deposits and environmental issues
- Contamination of surface and groundwater
