Contents	The undergraduate training activity of the SSD VET 08 involves the active participation of students in clinical activities at the ambulatories and diagnostic laboratories of the Department of Internal Medicine of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and the Emergency Service, carried out on a daily basis on spontaneous clinical cases on domestic and non-conventional pets, horses and food-producing animals.

Educational objectives	Basic knowledge on the approach to clinical cases of internal medicine in small and large animals. In particular the intended purpose is the achievement of practical skills required to the "first day vet " regarding the methodology in veterinary clinic and therapeutic procedures laid down in the basic log book developed by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Perugia. Specifically, the present placement aims to ensure that the student is able to: Skills and competences "Transversal" (Autonomy of judgment; Communication Skills; Learning Skills): 1. Communicate with the owner of the animal 2. Interact and communicate with the medical staff 3. Collect the patient's history properly 4. Complete a report and draw up a clinical record 5. Make a medical prescription 6. Understand and apply a standard operating procedure 7. Use the technological tools to obtain, process, share and communicate updated scientific and health information 8. Know the items for composing an invoice for one or more health benefits 9. Know the main administrative and medical-legal aspects and normative references of the profession of veterinary surgeon (medicines, animal health protection and health, registry, occupational activity, responsibility and professional ethics). Prerequisites
Teaching methods	Active participation in the clinical-diagnostic and therapeutic procedures carried out together with the teachers of the Section of Internal Medicine on clinical cases presented or hospitalized at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of the Faculty. Trainees follow the activities under the guidance of the physician on duty for the day at Internal Medicine.

Extended program	The undergraduate training includes compulsory participation in the activities of the Service of Internal Medicine for 30 consecutive days. It is necessary to wear garments (green or coat) and suitable footwear. It is necessary to have a phonendoscope. On the first day students must sign up to 8.30 am and communicate their attendance to the trainee teacher (Dr.ssa Conti) or the doctor in turn for First Aid Service on holidays. A document with behavior and safety guidelines is then delivered to them. The group of trainees is organized in turnovers (8,30 -13,00; 13,00- 17; 17,00-21,00; 21-8,30 vedi giornata tipo) and then divided into sub-groups that will rotate through the services of the Internal Medicine: Ordinary/Intensive Care and Therapies, Hematology and Laboratory Diagnostics, Flexible Endoscopy and Cardiology/Ultrasound. There are 5 days of activity on animals of animal interest in hospital facilities (Voc. Pilo) or in external farms under the supervision of the Internal Medicine professors or of freelance contracted practitioners. Trainees also serve during the night and during public holidays to support the activities of the Emergency Service of the Educational Veterinary Hospital. After a night on duty the next day trainees are free. Contents	L'attività di tirocinio nell'ambito del SSD MVET-04/B – Clinica Medica Veterinaria consiste nella partecipazione attiva degli studenti alle attività cliniche, diagnostiche e terapeutiche svolte presso il Reparto di Medicina Interna dell'Ospedale Veterinario Universitario Didattico. Gli studenti partecipano alla gestione completa dei casi clinici di medicina generale e specialistica riguardanti animali da compagnia, cavalli, animali non convenzionali e animali di interesse zootecnico. Le attività comprendono la raccolta dell'anamnesi, il segnalamento, l'esame obiettivo generale e particolare, l'impostazione dell'iter diagnostico, l'interpretazione dei risultati delle indagini collaterali e la pianificazione del monitoraggio clinico e terapeutico. Durante il tirocinio gli studenti prendono parte alle attività specialistiche del reparto, incluse gastroenterologia, pneumologia, cardiologia, diagnostica ecografica, endoscopia, ematologia, oncologia e diagnostica di laboratorio, nonché alla gestione dei pazienti ricoverati e delle emergenze medico-internistiche.
Educational objectives	D1 – CONOSCENZA E CAPACITÀ DI COMPRENSIONE Lo studente deve conoscere: l'approccio clinico al paziente veterinario nelle diverse specie animali; le modalità di raccolta e interpretazione dell'anamnesi e del segnalamento; i principi dell'esame obiettivo generale e particolare dei diversi apparati; i principali quadri clinici osservabili in medicina interna veterinaria; le indicazioni, i limiti e le modalità di esecuzione delle principali indagini di laboratorio e strumentali; i principi di interpretazione dei risultati diagnostici e di monitoraggio clinico dei pazienti ricoverati. D2 – CAPACITÀ DI APPLICARE CONOSCENZA E COMPRENSIONE Al termine dell'attività formativa lo studente dovrà essere in grado di: raccogliere e interpretare correttamente anamnesi e segnalamento; eseguire un esame clinico completo del paziente; riconoscere i principali segni clinici delle malattie internistiche; collaborare all'impostazione di un corretto iter diagnostico; assistere all'esecuzione e interpretare i risultati delle principali indagini di laboratorio e strumentali; partecipare alla gestione clinica e terapeutica dei pazienti ambulatoriali, ricoverati e in urgenza. D3 – AUTONOMIA DI GIUDIZIO Al termine dell'attività formativa lo studente dovrà essere in grado di: formulare ipotesi diagnostiche sulla base dei dati clinici raccolti; valutare criticamente i risultati delle indagini diagnostiche; contribuire alla definizione delle priorità diagnostiche e terapeutiche nei casi clinici osservati. D4 – ABILITÀ COMUNICATIVE Al termine dell'attività formativa lo studente dovrà: utilizzare correttamente la terminologia medico-veterinaria; partecipare alla discussione collegiale dei casi clinici; presentare e discutere i dati clinici raccolti con Docenti, Medici e colleghi; acquisire competenze relazionali nell'interazione con il proprietario e con il personale sanitario. D5 – CAPACITÀ DI APPRENDIMENTO Al termine dell'attività formativa lo studente dovrà essere in grado di: integrare i dati derivanti dall'esame clinico e dagli esami collaterali; approfondire autonomamente gli aspetti clinici e diagnostici dei casi osservati; utilizzare in modo critico le fonti bibliografiche e scientifiche per supportare il ragionamento clinico; sviluppare un metodo di aggiornamento professionale continuo basato sull'evidenza scientifica.
Teaching methods	Partecipazione attiva alle attività cliniche, diagnostiche e terapeutiche svolte presso il Reparto di Medicina Interna dell'Ospedale Veterinario Universitario Didattico nell'ambito del SSD MVET-04/B – Clinica Medica Veterinaria. Gli studenti partecipano, sotto la supervisione dei Docenti e dei Medici del Reparto, alla gestione dei casi clinici ambulatoriali e ricoverati, prendendo parte alle visite cliniche, alle discussioni collegiali dei casi, alle procedure diagnostiche di laboratorio e strumentali e alle attività specialistiche del reparto. Shifts are divided into three types: night (8.00 pm – 8.00 am on weekdays or holidays); daytime (8.30 am - 1.00 pm and 12.30 pm - 5.00 pm on holidays); evening (5.00 p.m – 9.00 pm on weekdays and holidays). Each student must perform 1 night shift, 2 day shifts and 1 evening shift to acquire a H24 CFU. For night shifts it is expected that the next day will be rest.
