| Contents | Principles of toxicology: classification of toxic effects, toxicological risk analysis. Risk/benefit assessment of drugs, safety of drug use. List of substances and methods considered doping. Mechanism of action and toxic effects induced by doping substances: unapproved substances, anabolic agents, peptide hormones, stimulants, narcotics. Analysis of the health risks associated with the abuse of drugs used to enhance athletic performance. Epidemiology of doping. Analysis of the doping phenomenon in various sports environments. |

| Educational objectives | Upon completion of the course, students will be able to: - Understand the fundamental principles of toxicology applied to physical activity and sports. - Know the main doping substances and their mechanisms of action. - Evaluate the health risks associated with the use of prohibited substances and methods. - Critically interpret real-life cases of doping in sports. - Promote prevention and health education strategies. |

| Learning verification modality | The exam will be an oral test lasting about 30 minutes. The test is aimed at ascertaining the level of knowledge and understanding get by the student on the the course program. Through the oral test, the teacher will also verify the language skills and student's ability to organize the argument. |
| Extended program | Mechanisms of substance toxicity, absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination of xenobiotics. Effects of drugs of abuse and supplements. The phenomenon of doping from a historical, ethical, and regulatory perspective. The main classes of substances of abuse and in sports: stimulants, anabolic steroids, EPO, growth hormone, diuretics, blood and gene doping, their effects on health, and doping control procedures. Clinical, medico-legal, and preventive aspects of doping, promotion of a culture of health, safety, and sports ethics through the analysis of case studies and real-life situations. |
