Globalization, while having made human societies increasingly interdependent, coexists with a mosaic of countries characterized by diverse territorial, socio-economic, demographic, and ethno-religious realities, as well as a multiplicity of languages, customs, traditions, and cultural practices. As a result, the world can be seen as a vast kaleidoscope, caught between the rise of nationalism and the frequent failure to uphold international law.

Against this backdrop, the Geography course examines the physical and geographical characteristics of the global system in its many dimensions, shaped and influenced by the relationship between humans and the environment through the interaction between society and territory. Topics of study include the evolution and general features of geography as a discipline; the growing disparities between developed and less-developed regions, further exacerbated by migration flows and increasing poverty; and the consequences of these processes for environmental, socio-economic, political, and public health contexts.

The course will also focus on selected aspects of the countries whose principal languages are studied within the degree program, as well as on the distinctive geographical characteristics of Umbria, the region in which the university is located, with the aim of fostering a deeper understanding of both local and global realities.
