- Luigi Santucci in twentieth-Century Italian Fiction. The course aims to highlight the distinctive features of the Milanese writer (1918-1999) within the contemporary novelistic tradition. Special emphasis will be placed on some of Santucci’s works, such as "Il velocifero" (1963) and "Orfeo in paradiso" (1967), as well as the author’s interest in children’s literature and fairy tales (also in relation to Calvino’s "Fiabe italiane"), with particular reference to his novel "La sposa bambina" (1985). The novels cited will be examined, in selected pages, and compared to works from other literatures, such as Goethe’s Faust.
- Reference texts
- Luigi Santucci, "Il velocifero", introduzione di Alessandro Zaccuri, Mondadori, Milano 2018; Luigi Santucci, "Orfeo in paradiso", a cura di Daniele Piccini, Mondadori, Milano 2025; Luigi Santucci, "Il ballo della sposa", Edizioni San Paolo, 2026. For a comprehensive overview of twentieth-century fiction, it is possible to use a secondary school textbook on the history of Italian literature. Teaching materials on the author will be uploaded by the teacher to Unistudium.
Students with disabilities and/or Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) and/or ADHD or ADD who have uploaded a regular certification into SOL can apply for the compensatory tools provided by current regulation (e.g., textbooks in accessible digital format; study materials in accessible formats: presentations, handouts, and exercises, provided if necessary in advance of lessons, see www.unipg.it/disabilita-e-dsa). For further information, please contact the Department Referent (Dr. Alessandra Di Pilla: alessandra.dipilla@unipg.it). - Educational objectives
- The course aims to provide interpretative and critical tools for reading twentieth-century Italian novels, with particular emphasis on Luigi Santucci and his key themes (such as joy and a taste for the fairytale). Comparisons with works from other literatures, which the author demonstrates using as sources, will also be encouraged. Students will be challenged to develop personal interpretative skills and independent critical thinking when approaching the reading of Italian literary texts.
