| Contents | Pathophysiology of endocrine glands. Diagnostics and notes on therapy of endocrine and metabolic diseases. Relevance of human nutrition in the prevention and treatment of endocrinopathies. |
| Educational objectives | At the end of the course, students will know the most important clinical-laboratory elements to identify the most important endocrine-metabolic pathologies. |
| Prerequisites | The student must know the mechanisms that regulate the metabolic activities, the secretion and the action of the various hormones. |

| Learning verification modality | Written examination consisting of 31 multiple-choice questions. The duration of the test is 30 minutes. The test is conducted on Unistudium platform. A pass mark is obtained with a Quiz score of 18 - which equals a mark of 18/30 and for each point thereafter, the mark increases by one point. The final mark of 31 corresponds to 30 cum laude. |
| Extended program | Secreting and "non-secreting" pituitary adenomas; hypopituitarisms; diabetes insipidus; "inappropriate ADH secretion". Outlines of auxology and disorders and disorders of body growth. Hyperthyroidism; euthyroid goiter; "nodules" and neoplasms of the thyroid gland; thyroiditis; hypothyroidism. Primary and secondary hyperparathyroidism; hypoparathyroidism; osteomalacia and osteoporosis. Cushing's disease and syndrome; primary and secondary hypoadrenalism; endocrine hypertension: excess of mineralocorticoids and catecholamines. Enzymatic defects of steroidogenesis. Primary and secondary male and female hypogonadism; pathology of puberty; male infertility; disturbances of sexual differentiation. Diffuse endocrine system syndromes and polyendocrinopathies. Neuroendocrine tumors and carcinomas. |
