Contents
The teaching of Gnathology aims to provide the student with the basics of modern gnathology, understood as a diagnosis of the main temporomandibular disorders and therapeutic principles related to gnathological rehabilitation

Educational objectives
-in-depth knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of ATMs
-clinical pictures of orofacial pain related to TMJ diseases
-Temporomandibular muscular, articular and mixed dysfunctions
-Knowledge of the principles, indications and contraindications of the therapeutic devices of temporomandibular dysfunctions
-Definition of operational protocols for follow-up in TMJ disorders
-Knowledge of innovative diagnostic strategies in the temporomandibular field
Prerequisites
Knowledge of the anatomy of the facial region
-knowledge of the physiological and pathophysiological mechanisms of pain transmission in the oral cavity
Teaching methods
The course includes lectures and educational seminars aimed at the main diagnostic and therapeutic systems. Group meetings will also be scheduled for the definition of therapeutic paths and strategies in the temporomandibular field
Learning verification modality
The verification of the learning of the training objectives will take place through an oral exam which will consist of two tests, namely the simulation of a clinical case with diagnostic hypothesis and an interview to define the general and specific properties of reasoned gnathological therapy.

-Trigeminal nociceptive processing in the progression of TMJ disorders
-Pathophysiology of temporomandibular pain
-Clinical examination of TMJ and masticatory muscles
-Clinical examination of the cervical and thoracic spine in patients with temporomandibular disorders
-Manual therapy of temporomandibular disorders
-Home therapeutic exercise in the treatment of temporomandibular disorders
-The neuromuscular bite, distraction and mandibular localization: clinical principles and therapeutic modalities
-Maxillofacial surgery in the treatment of temporomandibular disorders
