- Italian. International and Erasmus students will be able to have reading and other teaching materials available in English. Exams can be taken in French, English and Spanish.
- Contents
- The subject of the course will be the notions of norm, normality and deviance in the sociological field. The main theories on deviance and social control will be critically analyzed and, starting from case studies, their main research fields, with particular reference to criminal justice, the institutionalization of mental illness and addictions, migration policies.

- The student will learn the main sociological theories on deviance and will be able to develop critical knowledge on deviant phenomena and on the institutional methods that are responsible for them.
- Prerequisites
- In order to fully appreciate and master the topics of the course, it is desirable that the student has basic sociological knowledge, both theoretical and methodological.
- Teaching methods
- The course is organized in lectures by the teacher, seminars with scholars and operators, field visits.
- Learning verification modality
- The verification of learning will take place through an oral exam with general and specific questions aimed at assessing the mastery of the main topics of the discipline, as well as the level of knowledge and critical assimilation of the contents proposed in the teaching activities. The production of a written paper of a few pages relating to a research application topic may be subject to supplementary evaluation.

- Normativity in social relations. Normative socialization and social control. Theories of deviance. Institutionalization of norms and institutionalization of deviance. The policies of prevention, containment and repression of deviances.
