Contents
Aspects of topography and urbanism in ancient Greece and Rome.

Foundation and urban development of the Greek and Roman cities (es. Athens, Poseidonia-Paestum, Rome, Pompeii, Ostia, etc.).
Reference texts
Students must also choose ONE of the following books to read:
- G. Bonora, P.L. Dall’Aglio, S. Patitucci, G. Uggeri, La topografia antica, Bologna 2000 (Clueb)
- L. Quilici, S. Quilici Gigli, Introduzione alla topografia antica, Bologna 2004 (Il Mulino).

Educational objectives
The first aim of the course is to provide a basic grounding in topics as the topography and urbanism of the Greek and Roman cities.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of Greek and Roman archeology and history.
Teaching methods
Face to face lectures; PPT presentations.
Other information
Students are expected to attend class regularly.
Learning verification modality
The evaluation process provides an oral exam (duration: about 20 min.) on topics discussed in the lectures.

Extended program
The first aim of the course is to provide a basic grounding in topics as the use of ancient sources, the building construction methods, and the roads. In the second part of the course, through the examination of some examples (Athens, Sparta, Pergamos, Metapontum, Poseidonia-Paestum, Rome, Pompeii, Ostia, etc.), the foundation and the development of cities will be examined.
