Educational objectives - To frame anesthesia as "perioperative medicine" aimed at protecting the patient from surgical trauma.
- Be able to undertake the appropriate diagnostic / therapeutic pathways in emergency conditions and in the management of birth pain
Prerequisites In order to understand the contents of the lessons and the learning objectives, the student must have a solid foundation of physiology, pathophysiology and clinical pharmacology, as well as the ability to integrate information from different disciplinary sectors.
Teaching methods Frontal lessons, exercises on dummy, attendance in the Operating Room, in Intensive Care and in the outpatient clinics of Pain Medicine.
Other information
Learning verification modality Oral test lasting approximately 15 minutes divided into 1 question on a clinical picture/case and more technique. A further question on the minimum necessary knowledge may be asked in the event of an unsatisfactory answer to the 2 previous questions.

Educational objectives The main objective is to provide students
the knowledge of the most frequent diseases that can determine
emergency/urgency situations and the main intervention measures.
Prerequisites Knowledge of the principles of anatomy. Biological and clinical knowledge.

Extended program Health emergencies: health alarm system (112/118) and health emergency reception system (Emergency Room). Out-of-hospital medical assistance in maxi-emergency situations.
Cardiac arrest: definition, primary and secondary pulmonary and cardiac causes. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation: alert and intervention, BLS and ABCDE. The Heimlich maneuver. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation: breathing and cardiac massage. Lateral safety position. Defibrillation: shockable and non-shockable rhythms, methods of execution and drugs that can be used in combination. Critical situations: - respiratory insufficiency (musculoskeletal, neurological, intrapulmonary causes) - hypovolemic, distributive, obstructive, cardiogenic shock: definition, etiopathogenesis, clinical settings. Medical emergencies: - chest pain, abdominal pain: causes and clinical classification - the patient with headache in emergency: clinical differential diagnosis - coma: definition, causes and clinical severity - acute pain in the limbs - management of the traumatized patient - the patient with burns – pregnancy emergencies.
