Educational objectives
Basic knowledge of Mandarin Chinese linguistics, and (oral and written) composition of simple sentences (HSK level 4: B2).
Prerequisites
Students can take third year Mandarin Chinese exam after they pass second year's one.
Teaching methods
Standard classes at Dipartimento (Palazzo S. Bernardo) plus classes taught by native Mandarin Chinese teachers at CLA.
Other information
If the student passes the written part of the test taken at CLA in all its sections in the same exam session, its validity term is one year, in compliance with CLA rules.
Erasmus students do not need to take "Chinese 3" exam, provided that the Commission in charge puts an equivalent exam in the learning agreement (replacing Chinese 3 exam).
Learning verification modality
PART 1: WRITTEN TESTS (¿¿) ADMINISTERED AT CLA
(A) SENTENCES DICTATION (¿¿¿¿): Students are required to transcribe 15 sentences into Chinese characters. Such sentences contain both shengci ¿¿ and complementary words (¿¿¿¿) (relevant to the units in the program) which are marked with an * in the glossary of the book "Buongiorno Cina", plus any additional character, word or phrase explained by native Mandarin Chinese teacher during the year. Each sentence is worth 2 points: score is out of thirty.
(B) COMPOSITION (¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿) (1 hour): students have to write 15 sentences containing words, or fixed expressionss given by the Professor (e.g.: ¿¿…¿¿…; ¿¿; ¿¿¿¿; etc.) Paper or electronic dictionaries are not allowed. Each sentence is worth 2 points: score is out of thirty.
(C) GRAMMAR TEST (¿¿) (1 hour): the test is composed by various questions on linguistic structures studied throughout the year. It can be made of blanks to be filled with structures or grammar particles, translation exercises from Italian into Mandarin Chinese and from Mandarin Chinese into Italian, questions on syntax analysis, logical analysis, or linguistics. In this test there may be sentences and characters from the grammar slide deck. Every question can be worth 1 to 5 points, according to the degree of difficulty. Score is out of thirty.
(D) TRANSLATION(¿¿) (1 hour 30 minutes): Students have to translate a short essay on contemporary China from Mandarin Chinese to Italian. Only the use of paper dictionary is allowed.

WRITTEN TEST IS ADMINISTERED AT “CLA” (THE STANDARD DURATION OF THE TEST IS ABOUT 4 HOURS.)

Students cannot divide the sections of the written exam. If one part is failed, the whole test must be repeated in the following exam session.
Passing EVERY part of the written exam in the same exam session (A, B, C, D) is compulsory to take the second and last part of the exam which starts from the average score of the written test.

The topics of the lessons with the Visiting Professor will be part of the various sections of the written test.

PART 2: ORAL TEST (¿¿) ADMINISTERED AT DIPARTIMENTO
(E) ORAL TEST (¿¿): During this test, student's exposition ability and the ability to summarize in Mandarin Chinese are tested. The student has to randomly pick a unit of "Buongiorno Cina" among those included in the program (even if it was not explained in class) and, without reading the text, has to talk about it for at least 5 minutes without pausing or seeking native teacher's help. The student, then, talks about the topics studied with native teacher during the year. Knowledge of Mandarin Chinese grammar studied throughout the three-year course is also tested. The student is asked to do a sight translation of a random text extracted from those translated during the lessons with the Visiting Professor and with the Italian Professor.

The score is out of thirty. THE ORAL TEST IS ADMINISTERED AT DIPARTIMENTO (THE STANDARD DURATION IS ABOUT 20 MINUTES FOR EACH STUDENT).

The final score is the arithmetic mean of the tests taken at CLA and the oral test taken at Dipartimento.
N.B.:
•The exam is considered passed ONLY when the student passed every part of it. The student can take following exam sessions, always completing all the writing exam sections.
•BOOKING YOUR EXAM (WRITTEN –CLA WEBSITE, AND ORAL – SOL PAGE) IS COMPULSORY, STUDENTS WHO DID NOT BOOK THE EXAM WILL NOT BE TESTED.
•Please, check the official schedule issued by Dipartimento Lettere-Lingue and CLA.
