EU Students
All Erasmus students from a European Union country must carry their European Health Insurance Card, which guarantees access to the National Health Service (SSN), giving foreign students the right to medical care on a par with Italian citizens.
(Please note: the health card does not cover private healthcare services).
Services will be provided in accordance with Italian law.
Non-EU Students
Health insurance is another essential prerequisite, as without health insurance, non-EU students will not be able to obtain a residence permit or study visa.
Students must verify the validity of their insurance in Italy before departure by contacting the Italian Consulate or Embassy in their country, which will validate it.
If the consulate or embassy does not validate and sign the insurance policy, students will be required to take out a new policy upon arrival in Italy.
Once they have obtained a residence permit, non-EU students can still choose to receive comprehensive healthcare by registering with the National Health System (SSN) at the Local Health Unit (USL) for a fee of €700.00. This option guarantees coverage valid until December 31st of the year in which registration is completed.
A passport and residence permit are required for registration.
