| Educational objectives | The main aim of the course is to provide students with both theoretical approaches and empirical data to develop an awareness of their own language learning/acquisition process, in particular as far as the acquisition of English as a second language is concerned. Knowledge and understanding: - main theoretical approaches to the acquisition of a second language - empirical data on the acquisition of English as a second language - linguistic perspective on translation competence Applying knowledge and understanding: -awareness of one's own process of English as L2 learning/acquisition -analysis of data concerning one's own output, included translation data |
| Prerequisites | - B1 level of competence in English (Common European Framework) - Knowledge of the basic notions of linguistics |

| Learning verification modality | - Final oral examination: an interview in English (about 30 minute length) on the topics covered in the course aimed at ascertaining the acquisition by the student of the notions and concepts presented, as well as his/her ability to discuss them in spoken academic English. - Final written examination: a test (about 2 hour length) on the topics covered in the course aimed at ascertaining the acquisition by the student of the notions and concepts presented, as well as his/her ability to communicate them in written academic English. |
| Extended program | The course focuses on second langiage acquisition theories and on research data concerning the acquisition of English as a second language. A module concentrates on the application of linguistic theories to the acquisition of translation competence and on English to Italian translation practice. |
