Title of the course: Introducción a la lingüística hispánica: fonética y fonología, morfología. Introducción a la lingüística del texto español. The Spanish language course is divided into 3 parts or modules (54 hours) and goes hand in hand with the tests and the lab activities held at the CLA (80 hours). First part: Nociones de fonología y fonética españolas. Second part: Nociones de morfología léxica. Third part: Introducción a la lingüística del texto español.

Educational objectives

The course has the double aim to bring the students to acquiring the language from an absolute beginner level up to the A2 level of competence and at the same time to supply the basic elements for the metalinguistic reflection on the phonetic and morphological system of the Spanish language and for the reflection on the concept of Spanish text and of the criteria of textuality (cohesion and coherence in particular). At the end of the course the student will have to be competent in all the communicative abilities at the A2 level of the parameters according to the Common European Union Frame for the knowledge of languages and will have to prove to have basic theoretic and practical knowledge for the analysis of the Spanish language at a phonetic, morphological and textual level.
Prerequisites

There are no specific pre-requirements.
Teaching methods
Taught classes and practices during both semesters. The three parts or modules which make up the official course of the professor (taught classes), equivalent to 9 cfu, correspond to 80 hours of practice and lab classes held at CLA (Centro Linguistico d'Ateneo), activities which aim to provide the basic instruments and the materials needed to gain the final A2 level of linguistic competence, according to the Common European Union Frame. During the course held at the Department, which will be taught mainly in Spanish language and with the use of Powerpoint slides, an adequate space will be dedicated to in-classes exercises, in order to familiarize the students with the proceedings related to the phonological and phonetic transcription, also to the morphological and the textual analysis; at the same time, exercises and complementary activities for a guided and ongoing study will be proposed on the Moodle platform. On the Moodle platform the students will also find all the information on the courses and further material for the study. The courses will be, whether possible, integrated with extracurricular activities, among which seminars, transversal and multidisciplinary, given by the professor in charge of the course or by guest professors.
Learning verification modality
Final exam with one final grade. The test will be in 2 stages, one at the CLA and the other at the Department. At the CLA, the student will have to undergo, at the end of the course, a A2 level test, which is a pre-requisite in order order to be able to undergo the exam at the Department. The tests at CLA, to be done with the linguistic associates, will be written and oral, aimed at evaluating the acquisition of the linguistic competences as for the Common European Union Frame. The test will be evaluated with a score out of 30, which will be averaged with the grade obtained in the exam at the Department. The exam at the Department, conducted by the professor in charge of the subject, will consist of 3 written tasks, relating to to the 3 parts of the course: First part (30 minutes): open question test relating to the aspects of phonetic and phonology addressed during the course: phonological and phonetic transcription in IPA characters. Second part (30 minutes): open question test relating to the aspects of lexical morphology addresses during the course. Third part (2 hours): linguistic analysis of a short text based on the criteria analysed during the course (cohesion and coherence in particular). The use of a dictionary is allowed only for the third part of the test. The oral test (partly in Spanish language and partly in Italian) will cover phonetic topics and topics of lexical and linguistic morphology of the text addressed during the course and will last about 20 minutes. Only the students who have passed the 3 written tasks will be allowed to the oral exam. The students will have to book the tests through the Secretariat of the CLA (for the language level tests) and through the University SOL secretariat (for the exams at the Department) within the given due dates. Students who have not booked the test will not be allowed nor we will accept bookings via email or after the due dates. In case of “fuori corso” students (students who have not passed all their due exams within the prescribed period of time), there will be 2 extra exam sessions apart from the ones allowed for the students “in corso” (in the months of December and April).
Extended program

The phonetic and phonological system of the current Spanish will be the topic of the first part of the course which will start from the theoretical introductory aspects in order to get to the phonological and phonetic transcription (through the IPA characters) as an instrument aimed at visualizing the pronunciation of a language. The second part will be an introduction to the lexical morphology of the Spanish language in its main aspects (borrowings, complex words formation), while the third part will lead to the science of the text with special attention to the criteria of textuality, cohesion and coherence.
