Educational objectives
The course represents the first stage of an in-depth journey aimed at the study of the literature of the Spanish language from its origin up to our time. The main aim of such course is to bring the students to the acquisition of the general course contents and of the methodological and critical instruments useful for the analysis of the proposed texts. At the end of the course the student will be able to master the contents of the literary period in exam and to face the analysis of the literary text in its thematic and formal aspects through the use of adequate methodologies and critical approaches.
Prerequisites
In order to be able to understand and apply methods and notions discussed within the course, students are required to know the fundamentals of literary criticism and critical tools.
This precondition is valid both for attending and not attending students. It is therefore strongly recommended the attendance of the whole cycle of preparatory classes held by teachers of the Department at the beginning of the academic year (September 2021), before the start of disciplinary lessons
Teaching methods
Seminary style taught classes. The lessons will be partly in Italian and partly in Spanish language, with the use of Powerpoint slides. An adequate space will be dedicated to the analysis of the mentioned texts and others given in photocopies, in order to familiarize the students with the methodological and critical instruments used for the analysis of literary texts. Further learning materials for in-depth study will be supplied through the Moodle platform, where the students will also be able to find all the information concerning the course. The courses will be, whether possible, integrated with extracurricular activities like seminars, transversal and multidisciplinary, given by the professor in charge of the course or by guest professors.
Learning verification modality
Oral final exam. The speaking test will consist of a conversation which will last about half an hour and which will also concern the texts, read and commented in the classroom; it will be aimed at checking both the comprehension and the ability to apply the knowledge acquired during the course. The conversation will be in Italian, apart from one chosen topic which will be in Spanish language. Both the students “in corso” (students who have passed all their due exams within the prescribed period of time) and the “fuori corso” (students who have not passed all their due exams within the prescribed period of time) will be able to access the test only on the date of the first available session immediately after the end of the course. All students will have to book the exam through the University's Segreteria SOL within the due dates. Students who have not booked their tests will not be admitted to the exam, nor we will accept any bookings via email or after the due dates. In case of “fuori corso” students, there will be 2 extra exam sessions apart from the ones allowed for the students “in corso” (in the months of December and April).
Extended program
Through the reading and the commenting of texts in original language, the course aims at providing the necessary tools in order to understand the phenomena and the historical-cultural processes which characterize the literary period which goes from the 1700s up to the 1900s.
