- Introduction to ionizing radiation. production of ionizing radiation: X-ray, gamma-ray, electrins, protons, ions.
Ionizing radiation detectors both for neutral and charged radiation; active and passive, gas and solid state.
The main therapeutic tecnniques: IORT, cyberknife, IMRT,VMAT, TomoHD, Brachitherapy, hadronherapy, BNCT. - Reference texts

- To provide the basis for understanding radiotherapy technologies and techniques. All general aspects concerning the generation, use and detection of ionizing radiation, their effects on human tissues, the techniques used to maximize tumor control minimizing damage to health, will be conveyed to the students.

- Knowledge of atomic structure and electromagnetism.

- Oral colloquium, 60' duration, on all arguments of the course. Open questions and open answers. One of the evaluation criteria will be the capability of linking different arguments of the course
- Extended program
- The detailed course program: 1) ionizing radiations and thei9r ninteraction with living and non-living matter, radiobiology.
2) production of ionizing radiation: X-ray tube, linear accelerators, cyclotrons, syncrotrons.
3) detectors: ionization chambers, radiochromic films, crystals, MOSFET and silicon diodes, diamond.
4) Therapeutic techniques: eletrons: LINACs and IORT; photons: LINACs, Cyberknife, IMRT, VMAT, TomoHD; Hadrontehrapy: protons and ions; nuclear medicine: brachitherapy and BNCT.
