Extended program Health and disease, evolution of the concept of health. The determinants of health, social inequalities.
Illness as loss of participation and a factor of exclusion and discrimination. The displacement of the optics, the individual and the community. The intervention of other parties, beyond health. Organization and health planning.
The different health systems. The quality of the different systems. The shortcomings and limitations of the different health systems.
Health Promotion. Definition, concepts, principles. The application methods. The areas of intervention. The tasks of the various actors. Intersectoral. Integration. The operational setting. Health education.
Secondary Prevention. Models of intervention and application areas, capillarity, global, continuous, selectivity, and age groups exposed to risk, diagnostic models, set of observable, sensitivity specificity, safety, safety, protocols, levels of depth, character of tests: repeatability, falsifiability, quality control.

Educational objectives Knowledge about the composition, structure and biological cycle of bacteria, viruses and fungi and the mechanisms of host-parasite interactions. Knowledge the role played by microorganisms in infections of odontostomatological interest.
Prerequisites Knowledge of cellular and molecular biology. Structure and function of cellular components, structure and synthesis of proteins and nucleic acids. Innate and acquired immune response.
Teaching methods Front lectures, using as teaching tools projectors.
Learning verification modality Oral examination.
The oral test consists of an interview aimed at ascertaining the level of knowledge, the complete understanding and the ability to link on the subjects listed in the program. The oral test will also the communication skills of the student, the use of appropriate language and the ability to synthesize.
Extended program • Bacterial growth and nutrition. Microbial biofilm.
• The oral environment: general characteristics. Parameters of the host that influence oral microbial colonization. The oral microbiota. Oral fluids: saliva and crevicular fluid.
• Oral microbiota. Colonization and Quorum sensing.
• Bacterial genetics: DNA replication, mutations, conjugation, transduction, transformation, plasmids. Genetic diversity of oral bacteria.
• Virulence factors. Different virulence of bacteria in the oral cavity.
• Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Gram negative bacteria, Bacillus, Clostridium, Nesserie, Mycobacterium, Enterobacteriaceae, Pseudomonas, Campylobacter and Helicobacter. Bordetella and Brucella. Anaerobic organisms, Legionellae, Spirochetes, Mycoplasmas, Rickettsia, Chlamydia.
• Dental caries. Immunology of dental caries. Anti-caries vaccine.
• Periodontal diseases: virulence factors of bacteria.
• Oral virology. Viruses and diseases in the oral cavity. Immune response.
