- Know the therapeutic strategies to stabilize vital functions and prevent post-anoxic brain damage, learn the semeiotics of coma and the pathophysiology of hypovolemic shock, be able to discriminate nosologically and therapeutically the acute respiratory insufficiency due to obstruction of the pathways airborne, from impaired respiratory mechanics, from alterations in the chemical drive and from hemodynamic causes.
- Be able to adequately treat acute and chronic algic syndromes.
Prerequisites In order to understand the contents of the lessons and the learning objectives, the student must have a solid foundation of physiology, pathophysiology and clinical pharmacology, as well as the ability to integrate information from different disciplinary sectors.

Reference texts VAUDO G.: dispense. SIMEU - MEDICINA DI EMERGENZA URGENZA ELSEVIER MASSON - 2011
Educational objectives The main objective of the course is to empower students to recognize and treat internal diseases with urgency and emergency. The evaluation will take place by means of an oral examination lasting about 30 minutes, during which will be assessed the theoretical knowledge of the individual student in terms of diagnostics and therapy of diseases of internal medicine in the rapidly changing and will also discuss the issues raised during exercises practices carried out by the department according to frequency shifts clearly defined.
Prerequisites Knowledge of medical and surgical semeiology and internal medicine
Teaching methods The course is organized as follows: - Lectures on all topics of the course, through lectures with interaction between the teacher and the learners; - Practical training in internal medicine department, during which the students will be accompanied to the medical staff for a maximum of three students per shift; each turn provides for a duration of four hours to three shifts, for a total of 12 hours for each student. During these rounds the students will take vision of medical emergencies that belong in internal medicine department, they will put into practice the knowledge in terms of differential diagnosis and specific diagnosis for each disorder, take vision of the main therapeutic procedures for individual cases.
