Contents
The course will be organized in two parts:
• Social work and contemporary society;
• The custom projects work and the community projects work.

Educational objectives
The main aim of the course is to provide students the elements to understand and know the design approach in the work of the professional social service, addressed both to individuals and groups. In particular, the knowledge acquired will be:
• The effects of challenges in the contemporary society in the work of the social worker.
• The social worker within multi-professional working groups;
• The custom project: design methodologies, implementation and evaluation;
• The project for the community: design methodologies and implementation and evaluation.
The main skills that students are expected to possess at the end of the course are:
• Identification of the needs of the person/user;
• Identification of the main occupational hazard while conducting social work, in order to monitor the quality of professional intervention;
• Implementation of the project on the basis of individualized rights/needs of the person/user;
• Identification of the most appropriate evaluation tools to measure the effectiveness and impact of the project on personal life goals of the person;
• Knowledge of the main tools for assessing projects.
Prerequisites
In order to understand and know how to apply the topics discussed in teaching, it is necessary that students have taken and passed successfully the course Methods and Techniques of Social Services I and II. They must therefore possess technical knowledge and methodological issues related to social networks, to community work, the tools and techniques of professional social work in the approach to the person and the social worker’s own documentation.
The above techniques and methods are essential prerequisites in order to follow the course.
Teaching methods
Organization of the course:
• Lectures;
• Workshops on specific issues with experts will deal with methods. The workshops will be open to the courses of Methods and Techniques of Social Services II and IIII;
• Practical: thanks to a mode of active learning, works in groups, simulations of operational situations and elaboration of professional materials will be taken.
Learning verification modality
The exam consists of a written test and a short interview.
The written test, not less than 60 minutes, will include closed and/or concise questions about the program and also on studies performed in the field of seminars/workshops and methodological analysis. The study material will consist of reference texts and material eventually presented and discussed during the lessons: articles, videos, etc.
The interview will consist of a discussion of three terms taken from the Dictionary of Social Service regarding the course program.
Extended program
The course will be organized in two parts:
Part 1. The social worker and the challenges of contemporary society.
• Presentation of the teacher, the program and methods of examination.
• The professional social service in the complexity of contemporary society.
• People in contemporary society: are they holder of rights and/or holder of new needs?
• Social workers at risk burnout.
• Reflective approach of professional social service.
• The methodology of interdisciplinarity: the social worker in the multi-professional team.
Part 2. The custom projects for the people e for the community.
• Case management in the professional social service.
• The approach to custom design.
• The custom project: methodology and development.
• The evaluation of the custom project.
• The approach to design for and with the community.
• Projects for and with the community: methodology and development.
• The evaluation of projects for and with the community.
