- Contents
- Basic and advanced knowledge on comparative neuroanatomy and neurophysiology addressed to the Nervous System as well as to each element forming it, in order to understand neurological disfunctions and neurological diseases recognized in domestic animals.
- Reference texts
- The course provides learning material directly selected and proposed by the teacher and students as well.
- Educational objectives
- Neurosciences consist in studying Nervous System to understand the complex cerebral and neurological activities through the anatomy, molecular biology, physiology, pathology and medicine, up to math, physic and engineering. The course wants to provide the opportunity to be guided throughout the wide world of Neuroscience performing comparative evaluations to understand the many pathogenetic mechanisms underlying neurological dysfunctions and neurological diseases of domestic animals.
D1. KNOWLEDGES AND COMPREHENSION ABILITIES.
The Student must be able to acquire knowledge of Neuroscience selected by the teacher and to propose issues consistent with his/her interests identifying the comprehension and depth level.
D2. KNOWLEDGES APPLICATION AND COMPREHENSION ABILITIES.
1.The Student must be able to select sources for advanced knowledge in comparative Neuroscience.
2.The Student must be able to find materials as base for his/her process of learning
3.The Student must be able to start a research process on Neuroscience using web or other instruments, like meetings with experts in veterinary studies and medicine
4. The Student must be able to realize products useful to prove his/her dedication in learning and the quality of information acquired on comparative Neuroscience.
D3. AUTONOMY IN OPINION.
The Student must be able
-to prove method and opinion autonomy in selecting learning materials and in providing informative products on comparative Neuroscience
-to prove judgment autonomy in applying data coming from comparative Neuroscience to medical culture and veterinary job as well.
D4. COMMUNICATION ABILITIES.
The Student must be able:
-to use tool he/she prefers (paper, project, power point …) to communicate the learned information.
- to use the right terminology in describing Neuroscience issues.
- to identify the right field in veterinary activities where to apply the learned knowledge.
D5. LEARNING ABILITIES
The Student must be able:
-to consult and critically examine the literature in order to analyze more in deep subjects and propose strategies in solving issues in Neuroscience
-to define the comparative aspects much more applicable to human and animal neuroscience. - Prerequisites
- Students of the V year of degree course can attend the ADE.
To learn the given subjects and to gain the learning aims of the course, students must have attended the course of Pathological Anatomy. Moreover, the subjects discussed in the course need basic knowledge of Neuroanatomy and Neurophysiology. This information is strongly due to gain the aims of the course. - Teaching methods
- The course consists in lectures firstly provided by the teacher as Introduction to the Neuroscience. Then it is going to follow the interests expressed by the students which will personally contribute to share in the class.
- Other information
- The course is given in a classroom or teaching lab of the DVM. The activity schedule is available at DVM http://www.medvet.unipg.it/didattica
- Learning verification modality
- The course does not provide a final exam, as the current Learning Organization reports. Therefore, student’s learning is tested during the course step by step during interactive discussion and sharing of issues and by a final MCQ qualifying test.
- Extended program
- - Human and animal history of Neuroscience
- The cerebrum parabola; slow and fast thought in animal evolution.
- Sex and breed differences in brain activities and in predisposition to neurological diseases
- Brain aging
