Contents | The course aims at giving the students general and introductive information about the main paradigms of the contemporary reductionist and non-reductionist conceptions of the mind. |
Reference texts | Luigi Cimmino, Introduzione all’epistemologia della mente, Rubbettino, Soveria Mannelli 2014 (at the end of the course the passages of the text that are not subject to examination will be indicated). |
Educational objectives | At the end of the course the student must be able to master the general lines of the debate by indicating the fundamental problems, with particular reference to both the concept of action and the mind / body problem. |

Teaching methods | Frontal lessons. The course focuses on the topics that distinguish the above discussion. Attendance of lessons is recommended. |
Other information | 10 hours of supplementary teaching (band A-L) held by Dr. Vittorio Pellico. |

Extended program | Elements of general gnoseology; hints of ontology; the explanation in the "natural sciences" and in the "human" ones (with particular reference to the concept of "causality" and to the intentional explanation); Arguments for mind / body identity and objections; arguments for the functional reduction of cognitive activity and "qualia" and objections. |
