Contents The course aims at giving the students general and introductive information about the main paradigms of the contemporary philosophy of mind and the relationship between time, mind, and intentionality.
Reference texts Luigi Cimmino, Tempo ed esperienza. Intenzionalità, azione, filosofie del tempo, Aguaplano, Perugia 2020 (paragraphs and steps to be studied will be indicated at the end of the course).
Educational objectives The course aims to provide students with the concepts and argumentative tools, also using the contemporary philosophy of the time, concerning the topic of intentionality and its current debate.
Prerequisites None
Teaching methods Frontal lessons. Therefore, if possible, the frequency of lessons is suggested.
Other information Working students who cannot attend must contact the teacher, available for afternoon meetings, to agree on the program and make up for the inability to attend.
Learning verification modality Oral examination. The course does not include intermediate tests and may be complemented by seminar activities aimed above all at integrating the topics developed during the lessons.
Extended program First part: starting from J. E. MacTaggart's "proof of the unreality of time" - it concerns the dominant conceptions of time in contemporary philosophy, in particular the eternist and the presentist conception. Although the latter also has its problems, the presentist conception proves to be less subject to inconsistencies and contradictions. Second part: addresses the second chapter of the text and deals with the various conceptions of the intentionality of the mind, focusing and criticizing the relational conceptions of intentionality.
Third part: a non-relational conception is proposed that has time (presentist) as its constitutive dimension.
