Contents
In the first part of the course the evolution of the European civilization will be faced by the end of Four hundred to the Napoleonic empire, weaving I space him/it political with the social, economic and cultural stories. In the second the specific theme of the discovery of the new world will deepen him from the Europeans through the analysis and the reasoned reading of direct testimonies and texts storiografici of how much you/they have participated in the development of the debate in subject.

For the second form on the geographical explorations special dispensations will be furnished.
Educational objectives
To know the changes and the breakups that have marked deeply the history of Europe in the modern age, underlining the changes more than the continuities and the uniformities, to analyze the multiplicity of the political models, cultural, religious and of the working forms of the organization of the society in the European history. To reconstruct the trials that have brought to the today's condition, individualizing in the European expansion, in to rise of a world economy, in the connection of the contents through the emigrations of mass, in the planetary widening of the international relationships, in the formation of a cosmopolitan culture, the roots of the contemporaneity.
Prerequisites
With the purpose to understand and to face the course the student must possess the general notions concerning the chronological arc taken in examination by the course (1492 -1820), to know how to connect facts and events in the time, to reorganize data and concepts to know the principals conceptual and terminological tools of the discipline.
Teaching methods
Frontal lessons with projections of slide and breves filmed that they reassume the treated contained principals.

Learning verification modality
The evaluation consists of n. 2 tests: a written test and 1 final oral exam. The written test, reserved for students who have certified attendance at least two-thirds of the total number of lessons (36 hours), consists of multiple-choice questions that aim to induce the student to gradually consolidate specific knowledge, verify the competence in applying the acquired procedures and concepts and the logical abilities. The test will take place at the end of the lessons dedicated to the general part. The duration of the test is 40 minutes. The written test consists of 30 multiple choice questions. The questions are evaluated in 30/30. Each question is worth 1 point. Each incorrect or incorrect answer is equal to 0. The test is considered to be passed by obtaining a score equal to or greater than 18/30. If the result is positive, the vote on the exemption may not be rejected.
The student who passes the written test, obtaining a grade equal to or greater than 18, refers to the oral exam only on the texts adopted for the second module. Students who fail the written test also report on the general part. The final oral exam consists of a 30-minute interview max that wants to verify the mastery of the language, the ability to use the acquired knowledge and to link them in the argumentation and to discuss and deepen in various respects the different topics covered in the second module. The final vote will result from the weighted average of the two tests. All those who do not participate in the written test will report to the oral on the entire program of the course.
Extended program
The course is separated in two parts. In the first (48 hours) one you/they will be faced the changes and the breakups that have marked deeply the history of Europe in the modern age, underlining the changes, the plurality of the political models, cultural, religious and of the forms of the organization of the society. Such objective will be reached through the knowledges and the study of the followings matters:
The breakup of the geographical barriers - the explorations and the discovery of America - the birth of the colonial empires Italy and Europe in Five hundred - the shine of the Italian Renaissance - the wars of Italy - the Protestant Reform - the Controriforma and the Council of Trento - new wars for the predominance on Europe Six hundred - Six hundred Europe - the absolute monarchy in France - the parliamentary monarchy in England - Italy in Six hundred - the scientific revolution The first Seven hundred - the new culture of the Enlightenment - Europe and Italy of the Seven hundred one The age of the Revolutions - the first industrial Revolution - the American Revolution and the birth of the United States of America - the French Revolution - The Napoleonic age. In the second (6 hours) the theme will be introduced treated in the dispensation The Europeans and the world, that the students will deepen with a personal and reasoned reading of the proposed wise man. Particularly the attention will be set on two aspects that have characterized the phases of the oceanic explorations: the birth of the European hegemony on the conquered territories and the complexes relationships between the conquerors and the populations of the new world.
