Contents Main concepts of orthopedics and traumatology. Epidemiology, Etiopathogenesis, pathology, diagnosis and treatment of major orthopedic disorders and traumatic injuries of the musculoskeletal system. Principles of re-education and their applications.

Educational objectives knowledge of the basic elements and pathophysiology of the main orthopedic and traumatological diseases with particular reference to sport. Focus on aspects of prevention and functional re-education on the basis of physiopathological mechanisms.
Prerequisites knowledge of general knowledge of anatomy, physiology and general pathology is a posiytive background for the student who wants to follow the course with profit

Extended program General concepts of orthopedics. Main tissues and organs of the musculoskeletal system: biological and biomechanical characteristics.
Orthopedic physical examination. Main instrumental and laboratory evaluations. Types of lameness.
Congenital dysplasia of the hip, clubfoot and congenital torticollis.
Tendinopathies: general concepts of ethiopathogenesis, pathological anatomy, diagnosis and treatment. Main tendinopathies.
Muscle injuries: from epidemiology to diagnosis and treatment.
Femoral head necrosis.
Arthrosis: general concepts. Coxarthrosis, gonarthrosis, osteoarthritis of the spine, cervical and lumbar spine.
Disc diseases and lumbar and cervical disc herniation.
Types of traumatic lesions of the musculoskeletal system.
General information on fractures. Immediate, early and late complications.
Main fractures of the spine, pelvis, lower limb and upper limb.
Knee ligament injuries, meniscal injuries.
Shoulder instability. Shoulder conflict syndrome and rotator cuff injury.
Introduction to rehabilitation. Main methods of rehabilitation of the locomotor system and other organs and systems.
Type of physical therapy. Kinesiotherapy. The role of the nurse in the rehabilitation team.
