Contents CONCISE PROGRAM
Starting from the definitions of risk and danger will be presented and discussed issues related to the prevention and management of risks in the environment, in the living environment and in the workplace; the technical and administrative procedures to prevent the environmental impact assessment resulting from human activities; the collection, processing and use of data, to their translation validated information and methodologies of communicating information to health promotion and growth of social awareness.

Educational objectives EXPECTED LEARNING RESULTS
Learning aims
- Basic KNOWLEDGE: use of main analysis techniques and of assessment in risk management and environmental prevention in life and work settings planning methods of fact-finding survey, of displaying techniques and communication of results.
- Vocational GUIDANCE toward essential planning objectives, organization and check of primary prevention and of applied research in primary prevention field.
The course aims to present elements of starting knowledge, planning methodology and fulfilment of qualitative and quantitative assessment survey of sanitary-environmental risk factors, in the environment and in life and work places. Furthermore it intends to supply basic elements on presentation methods and displaying techniques of results with informational and formative purpose and health promotion. Learning activity based on PBL (problem based learning) method is organized with simulations, practical and applied exercises on actual cases, theoretical references and in depth-analysis of topics, chosen by students during team works, considered necessary for acquisition of knowledge, skills, work and behaviour methodology, essential and adequate to start professional practice.
Prerequisites Basic knowledge of general hygiene, environmental hygiene and of ecology, of the main risk factors present in the environment and in the workplace.
Teaching methods Course planning:
- Orientation input test.
- Lectures: definition of problems, introduction to knowledge elements necessary to activate and develop learning process.
- In depth analysis and team work processing.
- Presentation and plenary discussion of works.
- Recognition of methodological basis and basic theoretical knowledge necessary to understand specific professional elements.
- Educational guidance to study and to prepare learning examinations.
Learning verification modality Written examination with multiple choice questions and open questions; presentation and discussion of work in groups and individual work.
Extended program Issues concerning prevention and risk management

- Introductive references: definition of risk and danger; concept of actual risk, objective risk and biorisk; responsability and precaution principles; concepts of prevention, precaution and convenience cost.
- Recognition of risks: main factors of environmental risk, of living and working settings; classification and characterization of risks; problems in the world of work and stress associated to it.
- Procedural standards: risk assessment in health defense; risk management and its priorities; criticalities and management of residual risk.
- Methodology and assessment instruments: phases of risk assessment; subjective and objective methods of evaluation; algorithms and matrixes: instrumental surveys.
- Normative references.

Issues concerning administrative process of prevention in E.I.A (Environment Impact Assessment)
- Introductive references: definition of environment and environmental impact; territory and its modification due to human beings.
- New settlements/constructions: categorization of constructions subject to E.I.A.: technical and licensed aspects.
- Methodology and evaluation instruments: basic parameters and technical, procedural and administrative elements.
- Normative references.

Issues concerning collection and use of data – data submission
- Data output: technical report; informational report; risk assessment report: structure, fundamental elements, purposes and update.
- Risk maps in environmental and working settings: significance, structure and use.

Issues concerning results communication
- Risk communication: definition and conceptual differences between risk communication and communication about risk; techniques, procedures and aims; elements of communication planning; shared method of risk management; social perception and persuasion about risk.
- Information, education and promotion of heath: definitions, social aims of heath, planning method of an action, effect check.
