Educational objectives | The student must be able to describe and recognize animals belonging to the main taxa of Arthropoda at a high taxonomic level. |
Prerequisites | Students need good knowledge on Zoology (General Zoology and fundamental Taxonomy), knowledge on the basic principles of evolution. |
Teaching methods | Lectures in the classroom and some practical activities in the field and in the laboratory (at least 12 hours) |

Extended program | Basic concepts of Biosystematic, Phylogenetic and linnean taxonomy, morphological and molecular philogenesis, applied to the problems and challenges of the taxonomy of Chordata. Diversity of Arthropoda and their phylogeny. Panarthropoda: Onicofora e Tardigrada Subphylum Chelicerata, Picnogonida and Xiphosura. Aracnida, generalities and main orders (Scorpioni, Uropigi (e Schizomidi), Amblipigi, Opilionidi, Solifugi, Pseudoscorpioni, Palpigradi, Ricinulei e Acari). Aranea: Mesotela, Migalomorpha end Aranomorpha. Subphylum Crustacea. Generalities and main taxa in Crustacea (Remipedi, Cirripedi, Copepodi, Ostracodi, Cefalocaridi, Anostraci, Fillopodi Notostraci and Cladoceri, Malacostraca) Miriapoda (Chilopodi, Sinfili, Diplopodi e Pauropodi). Contents | The contents of the course intend to deepen the aspects of morphological systematics necessary for the recognition of species through a phylogenetic and molecular analysis necessary to understand the most typical aspects of evolutionary biology and reproductive and environmental adaptations |

Educational objectives | The training objectives are focused on the knowledge of plant species in numerical terms to acquire a certain ability in the processes of determination and recognition of the collected samples. Starting from this level of basic knowledge, it will be possible to address the issues of biosynthesis related to the differentiation of forms and functions, the mechanisms of pollination and reproduction, of molecular differentiation in particularly complex groups from the point of view of classical taxonomy. |
Prerequisites | The student must have excellent knowledge bases in Plant Biology (Botany, Biodiversity, Vegetation Science, Corology). |

Extended program | Systematics and Taxonomy: Purposes, Historical Development of Plant Taxonomy from Origins to Modern Phylogenetic Methods. Classification, concept of species, taxonomic ranks, nomenclature, study of variability. Characters with taxonomic value. Plant structure (cormophytes): Morphological and anatomical characteristics, form and function, evolutionary and coevolutionary aspects of the various reproductive and non-reproductive organs. Molecular systematics. Genetics, importance of chromosomal number, hybridization, isolation. Importance of Evolutionary, Geographical and Ecological factors, Plant Plant Pathology. Biogeography of plants: areas of distribution, disjunctions, vicariate, endemisms, diversity centers, alien plants, etc. State of biodiversity and plants at risk of extinction. Taxonomy in practice. Collection of data: gather plants in nature, herbarium, measurements of morphological parameters, analytical keys for plant identification, nomenclature code. The flora of Italy, the main families of Italian flora, theory and practice in identifying and comparing morphological characters that distinguish different orders, families and species.
