Introduction to the main electrical quantities. Single phase and three phases system. System for power delivery. Power lines and power stations. Power plants for emergency. Electrical generators, connection to the main power plant and stand alone working mode. Static power converters and unterruptible power systems. Electrical safety and protection ststems.

Electrical circuits. Electrical potential, current, electrical circuit with compressed parameters, the first and second Kirckoff laws, the linear, passive and rate indipendent bipoles, the active bipoles. The electrical networks in direct current. Sine-wave power grids, symbolic representation of sinusoidal steady-state quantities, impedance operator, electric power in linear bipolar networks. Three-phase electrical networks.
Systems for the transport and distribution of electricity. Transmission power lines and electrical distribution lines, conductors, switches, transformers and unloaders. Transformation and distribution cabins. Verification of the capacity of the cables and their thermal transients. Overload of a cable and verification of the voltage drop. Protection of electrical systems against overloads and failures, circuit breakers and fuses. Protection of people from electrocution, physiological and pathological effects. Direct and indirect contacts, differential switches and ground systems. Types of protection depending on the distribution system used. Verification of a ground system, measurement of step and contact voltage.
Recovery and management of an electrical system in emergency conditions. Electric generators, stand alone operation and parallel switching procedures on the main frequency and voltage network. Static power converters, rectifiers and inverters. Uninterruptible power supply units, storage batteries and generator sets, elements for the selection and sizing of the various types. Implementation, management and maintenance procedures for emergency electrical systems.
